Nvidia GPUs not recognised on Linux

  • Game Version: 100.17.64528.0 (523280)

  • Platform: Steam

  • Operating System: Linux (Fedora 41). All Proton versions.

Issue:

On Linux Nvidia GPUs are not correctly recognised resulting an error pop up on launch in the ray tracing settings are unavailable after the game opens.

Mythlog.txt has the following for GPU information. Note that it does see I have an Nvidia GPU but it can’t recognise the driver version which is really 565.77

PreGame 1144: ************* GPU Adapter Information ***************
PreGame 1144: Selected Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
PreGame 1144: Dedicated VRAM: 17171480576
PreGame 1144: Dedicated System Mem: 0
PreGame 1144: Shared System Mem: 24941561856
PreGame 1145: Current Driver Version: 0.0.0.0
PreGame 1145: Minimum Desired Driver Version: 31.0.22017.3004

As a test I tried updating graphicalprofile.xml to manually change the settings but that just led to no shadows at all and seemed to just disable the effects altogether

I also tried setting PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 in the launch options which does remove the error but didn’t help with making the settings available.

Trigger Event:

Launch game

Repro Steps:

  1. Open the game with an Nvidia GPU

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to chime in on this thread as I’m experiencing the exact same issue as DonaldDuck. I get the error popup when the game launches, and the ray tracing settings are greyed out in the options.

However, I wanted to clarify that the game is actually running fine for me otherwise. I can play without any major problems, but the ray tracing functionality seems to be the only thing affected by this GPU recognition issue.

I’m also on Linux with the latest Nvidia drivers 570 and have tried different Proton and Proton GE versions through Steam. My Mythlog.txt file also shows the Nvidia GPU being detected but the driver version listed as 0.0.0.0.

While the game is playable for me, the fact that ray tracing isn’t working suggests there’s still an underlying issue with how the game interacts with Nvidia drivers on Linux.

If anyone else is encountering this, could you also share your Linux distribution, Nvidia driver version, and Proton version? It might help the developers pinpoint the cause.

Even though the game is running, I think it’s still important to report this as a bug since a feature (ray tracing) is not functioning as expected.

Thanks for starting this thread, DonaldDuck! Hopefully, we can find a solution or at least provide enough information for the developers to address this.
