Of all the cons that the game has, which one bothers you the most?

lack of zoom

needs to be 50% to 100% more

look at aoe2de and aoe3de for examples.

Oversized weapons for units when not playing on maximum Geometry Detail in the graphics settings , they could just make them the same size ( like in max geometry) even if the settings are low

Not being able to select your color literally broke the deal for me.

Honestly, it just feels like this game should’ve waited at least 4 months before release. I partially disagree with the asymmetry point you brought, I think the game is asymmetrical enough, but they shouldn’t have called it the “most asymmetrical Age game to date”. Anyways, other stuff like the uninspired UI, bad or sometimes nonexisting animations, inconsistent proportions between buildings (compare the military production buildings with the others to see what I mean), poor civ balance (compare the HRE (infantry or nothing) with France (very flexible) to see what I mean) and bizarre choices in the campaigns (I understand people like the documentary stuff and I do enjoy my fair share of documentaries but I don’t think it’s the best way to present a campaign). Another point I’d like to add that I haven’t seen yet is how this game doesn’t really encourage team games, since there aren’t any team boni (from AoE2) nor team cards (from AoE3) or anything similar…

It was in the beta. At least you could do it for games vs the ai. But even that is gone.

I feel like the campaign was made for children. The documentary parts barely go beyond one-liners. So it’s just enough for the attention span of today’s Tik Tok generation, but nothing more. The campaign feels cold and distant compared to the sometimes even emotional story telling and coherence of AoE 2 campaings.

I am pretty sure that is not true. I saw no way to do so during either beta. I do think they should add it, but it wasn’t there and then removed.

Right now the game is everything I expected it to be from the betas, nothing less, nothing more. That is to say: it’s a mediocre and fun-for-a-while game.

But what really surprised me about the final release version is the zero improvement over texture quality and overall blurriness. It’s unreal. The terrain is blurry, the building textures are blurry, the unit textures are blurry. I really hoped we were missing the good texture pack in the betas to save download bandwidth & times.

In a somewhat distant second place is both the inability to change civ color and and the static chickens and horses. I mean, come on!

It was the lack of ingame theatrics, voice acting and animation in campaigns for me. Some AOE games I play just for the campaigns. But in this game it’s lifeless.

It was there. When creating a game vs ai you could choose the colors. They had them all. For 8 players. I am not shitting you. I would’ve screenshotted this if I thought it could be removed from the release version. It was there and now it is not.

The custom lobby looks exactly the same now as it did in the beta. There is/was only the civ selection drop down and the team drop down.

The only player color option has been to have team or individual colors.

day 2 of playing: the zoom still bothers me…

I swear I could choose colors for them. I always use to put English on yellow as ai opponents in AoE 2 and also did that in the stress test, too. I don’t remember how, but I know I did it. The core issue, however, is that there is no color selection in the released game and it should be added. I think we can agree on that, right?

On that I agree. I am pretty sure they do not have in in CoH, but they should realize it is pretty standard for AoE games to have.

Well for me in the beta tthere was this weird thing. Me and my friends all were blue. Despite having the unique colour option. I was blue, my other friends would say “no I’m blue! You are yellow!” While another friend would say “no I’m blue! You are green!”

No micro potential except for “engage/disengage” call easily.

I’ve got 60+ hours in 1v1 now, coming from highly competitive SC2/CoH2 and it seems to me that there is absolutely 0 “outplay” potential in the game.
It feels like the entire concept of the game is broke down to buildorder now.

And due to the fact that the game is so absolutely slow in buildup and macro, it’s really boring to work on that as well.

I was more hoping of a realistic combat system then a hp bar combat that do not affect units.

Like if units is hit by arrow, units could:

10% unit die
20% slow attack
30% slow movement
40% nothing

If a second arrow hit unit:

10% unit die
10% unable to move
10% unable to attack
30% slow attack
40% slow movement

If a third arrow hit unit:

10% slow movement
10% slow attack
20% unable to attack
20% unable to move
40% unit die

The combinaison and effect has no limit.

I am just sad they chose hp bar and waiting bar has game figth mecanic.
