If you ever catch me calling the game uninspired or soulless, I’m trying to use shorthand to describe exactly this.
1- Auto ballistic
2- Poor physics
3- Design of the siege units especially ram looks like ■■■■
4- Extremely close zoom level.
5- Lack of player points and not being able to see the map after the game
well I would like some crew firing some weapons on the boats… since it was made by the COH devs I thought they would add something like that, dont why they cant do something like that, thats why I call it ge of mediocrity lol
Agreed brother, the game has so many inconsistences
Oh course it gives the game more ways to in a game, more strategy and I love it tbh thats what I love the most of aoe 3, but honestely I can life without that in a AoE game, of couse would like if it can be added as a mod or soemthing like that
doesn’t sound crazy, that’s what I had in mind when I first heard asymmetric civs… especially when they upload videos saying they did things historically correct.
I want the good for this game so much that it hurts me to criticize it.
What bothers me the most is the absence of details and Gaia.
I thought that 5 by 5 units could be created to reduce management and optimize space, but no. “The game must look like AOE-2 and shut your mouth.”
The disproportion of the buildings and the little credible projectiles, both in impact and in their ballistics.
Unreactive and unrealistic water.
to be playable in multiplayer.
99% of ppl asked zoom do increase.
Imagine ur TC would take not 1/3 screen size but 4/5. And u zoom out somehow, with tiny units, unable to micro.
I agree that game looks unimpressive but mostly to be able to run on Potato PC.
How any graphics can be “impressive”, if it has been developed for 2010 specs.
The space around the edges of the building footprints screws up the scale.
After playing, it feets the gameplay, but still hurts visibility and readability, 3 buildings takes the whole screen
Ironically this is a detail that I liked, but it was certainly not implemented properly.
A few civs are still a little too generic
Ranged units snipe, as in, they can hit a still target every time.
Too perfect, like I’m watching a calculator.
Artillery can fire straight through my units into the enemy, even though I’m in the way?
Zero friendly fire from exploding artillery.
No dynamic weather
Ahh, yes, this wasn’t expected and a bit confusing. I prefer over-writing my previous control group
Animations could use some work. I hope they can do some nice clean-up on them before release. One more anim pass to give more proper physics, speeds, and weight added to things, for example. Some animations feel a little floaty to me, in general. The swinging axe of lumberjack villagers stands out quite a bit, for instance. Feels a bit like a cyclical swing through molasses. Having a much quicker strike down speed than wind-up would help, and more strikes per minute would be nice.
Arrows are a little thick and bright for boats still, maybe. And seems a little odd to have an arrow pause and rotate upon near-impact. They’re not hitting the boat here:
Did they say it was because it made it easier for players to find/manage units and such? If so, I’m thinking close camera zoom level, muddy colors (not very vibrant/saturated/constrasted), softer textures (not a ton of contrast/detail compared to past titles), loose building footprints (more urban sprawl and ground clutter around buildings), and the non-orthographic camera all probably contributed to difficulties in managing things. I’d prefer some or all of these things adjusted to be more in line with, say, AoE2; especially if it means the buildings could be a more proper size.
I don’t understand you, in other thread you make spreadsheet to show how many unique things each civs have, here you point out the flaws in their roster design😂
A person can like the game but still call out on the lacking features.
Yeah, indeed you can. I’m just not sure about his stand about the Asymmetry of the game
It’s developed by Relic, but not necessarily the same people.
dont tell anyone… but !!! mongol infantry are exactly like everyone else’s!! and thats the sad part
mongols are known for the cavalry because of their availability and the mangudai and the buffs the khan give out, but this applies to infantry as well…
like how everyone has maa, but HRE and brits get them sooner, same for mongols with horses. but by late game there really isnt that much difference between everyone’s cav, only really the fact that mongols can be trained in pairs(and again the mangudai)…
brit maa are more tanky, and hre are a little more tanky and when fixed will have higher dps (especially vs armoured targets like other maa) but they arent that much different, in the same way mongol cav is like that
Yeah i’ve played the betas its a sad fact.
You’d expect the mongols to just generally have really good cavalry. But yeah, making it 1 age earlier isn’t that good a benefit. Especially considering how fast everyone can age up now.
The english dark age MAA bonus is almost laughably bad as most people can age up in 5 minutes.
You can’t even do much harassment with them because TCs do so much dmg now without having to idle villagers. So it just makes a dark age MAA rush worthless.
I’d much prefer if the english just had generally better MAA stat-wise.
- No Batch Training
The lack of batch training slows down the game considerably and drastically reduces the fun of back and forth gameplay. If you get out massed somewhere, you cannot turn the tide and recover. The ridiculous sieging ability of all units other than archers means your base instantly melts and what units you do trickle out get killed instantly since they come out one at a time and don’t even attack until they reach their rally point. You need to run away somewhere else and but down 30 production buildings to rebuild your army which is tedious as ■■■■. If you could train a batch, you could have an army replenished before your entire base melts, and it would only take a fraction of the time to rebuild if you couldn’t save your base.
It wouldn’t even need to be batch training by default. It could be successive techs to increase batch size so that you could be making 3 or more units per batch by age 4, but still start with individual training to keep the starting pace the same.
- Horrible UI
Buildings with 2 levels of hotkeys that are organized by age instead of function is just terrible. And there’s not enough uniqueness between icon colours/borders to properly distinguish between different upgrades and units.
Minimap is just trash.
Terrible feedback when shift clicking.
Lacking info on unit stats.
- Horrible visual clarity
Horsemen hold a spear which makes them look just like a lancer or fire lancer. Just give them a sword so they look different!
Siege has no crew so you can barely even tell what team they’re on.
Buildings look too similar and don’t have any feedback. For example, the blacksmith could have smoke when it’s researching or the horse could run around at a stable while it’s training units.
Camera is way too zoomed in to see properly.
