England is only civ which has in description that populations are speaking Old English in the Dark Age and evolving to Early Modern English by the Imperial Age.
From the previous trailer it looked like it was feature of the game and not just England.
Would be nice.
it seems abassids also feature 2 different stages of development, so there is a possibility there. They probably will do such thing if it fits with the games Idea o the civ.
They made it sound like it isn’t an English exclusive feature.
They English/British voices have been put more effort in in the past already.
In AoE3 the English talk Middle English while all other civilisations talk a much more modern version of their language.
I really hope they don’t mess up with the languages anymore. The civs revealed so far are amongst the easiest picks in the matter of linguistics. The old and middle variants of Chinese, Arab, Persian and French are well known and documented.
They cannot do what they did in AoE2, in which medieval civs speak the modern variants of their language, or Goths are made to speak middle-High German instead of Gothic, or Aztecs speaking an unattested Mayan dialect instead of Nahuatl, or Byzantines speaking Latin instead of Greek, and so on. And this is something they’ll have to ponder upon when they think of adding new civs, because in this day and age they have no excuses to say they don’t have enough research and academic resources available.
I understand maybe if there are some civs that don’t have their language records that far in the past, but at least for the majority of civs, I think it is a good idea to use the old language this time.
Take Chinese as an example, even with so much records, linguists can not tell how Middle Chinese or Old Mandarin exactly sounds like. So how can you find voice actor capable of this?
At least Britons and Franks definitely doesn’t speak modern variants of their language. Pretty sure Relic is aware this is thing in the franchise and will do their best. And also pretty sure they still won’t satisfy everybody just like nobody can reproduce authentic versions of old langues from every corner in the world.
its just a guess, but it seems the Abbasids change languages entirely from Arabic to Persian as they age up, reflecting how the Abbasids adopted Persian culture.
Do you think Russians will use old Slavic at start than? It is known language. Most of languages from that time period are known actually so its not truth that we cant reproduce them.
I didn’t say we can’t reproduce them, I literally said Britons and Franks use old authentic versions of their language in AoE 2. And just because it’s sometimes in the literature doesn’t means there’s a human being that know how it actually sounds and all the fine details the language entails.
Well I hope we got old language for all of them 8 starting civs since it is cool idea to have and all of them are known I believe.
