The reason why AOE2 rose is because it was the best RTS game in 1999, people were amazed and invested in it, and then AOE2’s game industry chain and player community gradually grew to the size it is today.
AOE4 will be produced in 2021. The player base and ecology in 2021 are completely different from the environment in 1999. It has more competitors and players who have higher expectations for RTS. In fact, RTS games have been continuously weakened As of now, because fewer and fewer players love it and are investing in other lighter genres (such as mobile games and switch, etc.), you shouldn’t just because AOE4 is not as successful as AOE2 today. Blame AOE4 for being inferior to AOE2.
Simply put, AOE4 is far better than AOE2 in many ways, but it faces a more discerning group of players, and the number of RTS players is now much lower than the number of RTS players in 1999, so it will be even better than AOE2 Struggling more. We certainly admire the success of AOE2, but please keep 1999 games in 1999, don’t try to make AOE4 go back to 1999 in 2022, this will indeed successfully please the old AOE2 players, but it will drive away More new players.

I think AoK has a more memorable player experience than AoE4. So saying AoE4 is straight better instead of saying they are not comparable feels odd. But your opinion.
Hmm.
I understand your thoughts but you have to explain to me how the points I mentioned in my last post will be a problem for nowadays players?
They won’t be bothered at all, the game would nearly stay the same with the nice addition that you will also please some of the dinosaurs under us players.
How should that be a problem?
Edit: Also, when you say AoE IV is far better than AoE II, then how does it come that it lacks typical RTS features that almost any other RTS game offers (hotkey configuration, savegames etc. pp.)?
I‘m sorry, these aren’t features of the last century, they are nearly a must have for every game?!

The 1999 game could be released with color selection, random maps and map editors.
The 2021 game cannot.

That is exactly what BF2042 did, they aimed for non BF players, and it ended up as a total mess and a dead game.
The main reasons: alienated from its fans and no longer BF (lost its identity).

I’d prefer the Devs keep 1986 games without color pick, map editor, ample mod content for single player, etc., back in 1986, as it drove away most new players rather quickly.
AoE4 is a pickle jar RTS. I enjoy it because matches don’t have to last too long (if a 3v3/4v4 lasts longer or is not decided by 20 minutes, something is going wrong), and it’s pathetically easy to learn and play using two control groups and attack move until 1300 ELO since micro is hardly a thing compared with more intense titles like C&C where individual unit micro always matters. But again, I like the game, even if it does have 20% of what it should have since launch.
