Order of the Dragon the most vanilla civ

Yes, I think a rework would be good, either of the existing landmarks or adding new landmarks from Hungary and Wallachia/Romania… even Sigismund’s Castle, Corvinus’s Castle or Vlad Tepes’s Castle could be the new wonder for the Order of the Dragon…

Also add Vlad Tepes’s as a hero while we are at it??? Why not?? The guy made holy wood what it is today and we never had the real story. I think the world owes him that much.

I know. Vlad III would work well for a Wallachia concept.

I actually wanted to do a Wallachia concept, but since I did a great Aztec concept, and then a Timurid one, my current concepts always have to have a lot of graphics and bibliography, so I generally prefer to work on concepts one at a time.

That said, I don’t think Vlad III fits the Order of the Dragon, neither the current one nor a remake:

  1. Vlad III, or Vlad Draculea, “did not belong to the Order of the Dragon.” It was his father, Vlad II, who was in the Order. He got the nickname Draculea, as a term of endearment, because he was Vlad II’s son.

  2. The Wallachian army that Vlad III assembled was very different from the one depicted in Order of the Dragon: He used many guerrilla tactics, including camouflaged infantry (similar to Japanese Shinobi), mountain archers, boyars who survived his first purge of corrupt nobles, “body palisades,” stealthy cavalry (night attacks), etc.

The one who could be included is Vlad II, who was his father.

Yes, it’s possible… and that it has a “vampiric” attack that, when it attacks units, leaves them bleeding and heals itself faster…

Good point…yes, you could just make a Vlach variant of the HRE and that’s it…

That sounds to me like perfect oportunity to make varant civ of a variant civ. That would be awesome. We got to keep this game fresh with wild ideas like that:))))))

Age of Variants IV 2.0…More variants than ever lol…

So what??? Are you interested in playing the game or analyzing details??? AOE1 and AOE2 was all variant civs and nobody was bothered by it. AOE 3 had 3 major differences btw natives, european and asian with few smaller features btw civs. Again nobody said anything. Why is this now a problem??? We have huge variety in all of the civs. Also historically almost all civilizations back had roman buildings so yea the architecture was the same with few exceptions.

Na, I was just joking… I’m not complaining about the variants, at least these last ones are pretty good, but two variant DLCs in a row is a bit disappointing. At least the Vikings (and maybe Aztecs or Incas) are confirmed for next year, although first they’ll probably sell us one last variant DLC with Novgorod, Seljuks, and Songhai…

Ok, but my point still stands. Variants civs are not variants at all, except for OTD and also French and jeanne d’arc no other civs are alike. The devs shoot themselves in the foot with the term variant civ and now it has become a thing. I would rather have 20 more “variant civs” than 2 regular civs. I don’t know if I even want that much to begin with I have tough time learning the ones we have. in other words I would rather see new mechanics added to the game rather than new visuals. On that note the old civs can really use some polish. That’s why I made this post. Give OTD some fresh blood make them interesting again.

Didn’t they already do that?

Yes, as long as they’re well-made like the last ones, I’m not complaining…

Yes, but only one… the English got 3, the other civs like Mongols, Ottomans, Malians, etc 1 but since they already had 5 it’s not that noticeable, and the French got none… at some point they should focus on the Western European civs… the HRE could get the Hussite Wagon and the French could get the Frankish Axe Thrower and the Coustiler…They could also include the Huskarl, but that one will probably arrive with the Vikings…

I know I’m late to the discussion but i would add that the design for ootd is too gaudy. Specifically, their gold weapons are too immersion breaking. Their armor is really cool but golden halberds, lances and swords are just ridiculous and golden bowstrings for corrsbows and bows? Gimme a break…

I find a lot of the civs added by Relic since the game launched to be in bad taste. I liked the civs Forgotten Empires introduced, especially the units. They felt much more grounded and immersive. Too bad they’re not as familiar with the Essence engine. It’s apparent that the designers at Relic don’t have the same appreciation for history and they’d break immersion for the sake of new mechanics much more easily.

I’d like a ranged cavalry for OoTD.

Black Riders or the Warwagon (AoE3).

Korean war wagon as well (AoE 2):

The Warwagon, with handcannons, was a Bohemian unit.

More specifically, a unique unit of the Hussite rebelds.

A better conception of the units is in AoE2:

I find it difficult to see it as a unit of the Order of the Dragon, which generally only has “Gilded versions”.

Having a civ like OOTD is good. Its good because its the “noob” civ. They dont need to change it imo

Yes, and the Magyar Hussar…
