Ottoman slow eco problem

How does the Military school screw up the Eco?

Thats just my own hypothesis why ottos have a weak early eco.

Devs tend to balance early eco to amount to the same - Eng/ HRE get straight bonuses for res with eng farms and aachen chapel, respectively, where french and abba have stronger bonuses gated by techs.

In the case of otto, its like with delhi with the free/slow mechanic. Unlike delhi, where they get eco out of it from the eco techs, otto only gets the res equivalence of whatever the military units make:

In age 4 thats alot - adds up to about 600 res/min if you have 5 schools in the blacksmith aura. Up to about 850 res/min with the Observatory. Similar ballpark to the passive production landmarks of other civs (Hisar academy, full Regnitz, max Guild Hall, etc)

The problem is, since the schools scale exponentially with blacksmith aura and number, early schools end up being really weak:

  • In age 1 the military school gives you abt 62 res/min.

  • In age 2 the black smith aura takes than up to 81 res/min per school. Max → 162

  • With Military Campus → 243 res per min

To say less, you get about 5 vill worth of res in spears/bows/sipahi after spending 750 wood/stone, a blacksmith and at least 2 viz points. Barring that you max at about 3.4 vills worth of spears/bows/sipahi.

Otto has a pretty generic time for building multi tc’s and aging up. Vs fast age 3 civs you end up aging up slower and vs multi tc plays you dont have any bonus to that so you end up booming slower too. Then the enemy swarms you with higher tier units, backed with a full boomed eco.

The current age 2 landmarks are just not enough to put otto on even terms with a good boom civ or fast age3 civ.

Bro dont listen beasty he said cav archer was op he was going to use it every game.He made it get nerf and now he says he dont know where to use it.Now he is sugesting nerf to sipahi and janissary he dont know anything untill he practice it he is not smart person.He is also sugesting Anatolian Hills bonus turned into wood thats bad idea too.Ottoman early age should buffed so little and so smartly because i know if it buffed too much everyone is on the forum going to cry how op they are.

Also last patched great bombard gets new nerfs it is totaly useless. Beasty says jannisary and sipahi are op but other civs have very powerfull units. Jannisary very bad vs man at arms, huge man at arms spam easily kill your units. Main problem when you go maa most of the civs have unique maa or technology. On the other hand thanks to bad food eco you don’t produce much with the others they did. In the imperial age problem solved by 5 military school and istanbul o. but feudal and early castle it cause very problem for the players.

Otto needs some unique technology and meaningful vizier points.

It was OP it had way too high speed, especially with mehter bonus. It’s speed was lowered in line with other cav archers. You can still make them faster than knights with mehter vizier point but not faster than horseman which is their counter.

It was not op it speed was high and reducing was the right choice but they reduced its attack too.If they didnt done this nerfs beasty still couldnt find a way to use them because they come so late and expensive and you need to do their upgrade researches.

It’s not a standard unit, they never had cavalry archers before now it is just an additional option. It shouldn’t be better than rus horse archer or abba camel archers as they are main units for those civs.

It had high base damage which scaled too well, now it is a balanced unit.

No its the opposite since you cant access them directly they need to be better than other horse archers.

Edit:But im happy with cav archer even i dont use it nearly never.Its lorewise good to have them at Ottomans.

Every streamer and pro gamer says otto sucks. We all say otto good in imperial but not op. Main problem you don’t reach the that point. You will die probably in feudal or castle.

I agree with you key to Ottoman play is you need to make sipahi in feudal as soon as possible and raid the enemy and disturb his eco this will give you enough time for your military schools make profit but lots of people complained about their feudal so they will get a buff i hope it wont broke the game.

The basic problem is that the civs that favor aggression can easily overpower sipahi vs early knights or maa/horsemen and the rest have very safe speedy booms that let them take of after making just a few spears and archers.

It keeps going back to the same thing - Otto cant keep up with the speed other civs can age up. The civ needs to hamper enemy eco, but it cant make enough units fast enough to really be a threat early since the best units are fairly expensive and early military schools are not good.
