Ottomans uu explore

Almost certainly not. Could you imagine how screwed up civ design would be if they needed to rebalance everybody midstream by stapling more units to a civ just for some weird sense of fairness?

Knights for life. To resist is futile.

Yamato hoplites. Glad to see aoe4 has returned to the franchise’s roots of giving everyone European units.

So then this is not an expansion pack, there is not even a new campaign, it is just a free update otherwise we will have new units and new campaigns…
If I remember correctly it was pretty common to add more units in expansion packs like brood war, age of conquerors, dark crusade, etc, one of the main complains in this and other forums is the lack of unique units, so I don’t see what’s the problem adding more unique units, st the end this is not an age 2 clone and the game is semi asymmetrical… Balance issues you will always have in any RTS…

I agree with you that the units in the existing civs are lackluster. I think every civ should be redesigned. I just mean to say that a full redesign is unlikely to happen at this point.

It seems that the new civs have more in common with the latest AoE3 dlcs. They appear to be better designed than the old civs. The Malians for instance have no crossbows. For AoE4 thats a huge step. And hopefully it will be more and more that way.

RIP to the launch civs tho.

Wasn’t the Blue Mosque built after the Middle Ages?

There is always the possibility for devs to go back to the old civs and revitalize them. Devs will explore new mechanics and new ways and update the old ones to fit a newer standard and hopefully bring more uniqueness. They should have the mentality that every civ is a living thing and introducing new things or changing should be encouraged.

AoE4, and their new official Ottomans timeframe, go beyond medieval. Middle Ages ended for the world, when Turks broke into Constantinople with Great Bombards, 1453.

Knowing that the original meaning of the unit is “mad, wild, daring” immediately makes the fearless, badass bear skin-wearing Sipahi cavalry my favorite unit in AoE4.
