Over buffing civilizations

You just don’t understand how broken they are

Well, maybe not, but nobody has bothered to make a very compelling argument that that’s the case, so much as they’ve just repeated the “broken” line ad infinitum, without supplying much evidence except a couple games against clearly unprepared opponents, and supposing that that “proves” their case beyond any doubt. It’s definitely a strong early strat for Goths, and it might be overpowered, but from where I stand, it’s still too early to tell. Theoretically, it can be dealt with quite well with good walling and Feudal archers/towers, without necessarily putting the defender at much of an eco disadvantage (a large proportion of pro games feature walling anyway). Give people some time to practice countering the rush, and you might find, while it’s strong, it’s far from an insta-win. At the end of the day, it’s just another strat, another tool in the tool bag. Will it make Goths a common pick on extremely open maps? Maybe, but I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. Now, if a month or so goes by, and nobody can consistently counter the Goth drush, then obviously it’s OP and needs to be changed. I just wish people would stop making sweeping conclusions based on one or two questionable data points. Every good new strat that is made or discovered is arguably considered OP, at least situationally, until people learn to counter it. As I’ve mentioned before, pros still haven’t come up with a clear counter for the Inca vill/tower rush, for example, without mirroring, but nobody is complaining about that.
Hell, I’m sure some people thought Saracens were OP when the Saracen Monk Rush was first discovered. So give it a month or so. If it really is as broken as you say, worst case scenario is it probably gets fixed in this month’s update.

Welp, he does word somewhat differently there https://twitter.com/Secret_TheViper/status/1234760546110582785 I don’t thunk he meant “OP”

It definitely feels like that we are witnessing a slow power inflation in this game in general, I think it has been there since Forgotten Empires expansion and just getting more and more out of hand. I mean I am not necessarily against it, it all started with introduction of Imperial camels and Imperial skirmishers + additional unique techs for civs and now we have gotten to a point where we have trash gold units like 2handed swordsmen and crossbows and now the goths and mongols get their boosts… at some point the extra buffs, cost reductions, extra armor and health points that are being handed out to all the civs are just going to lose their value IMO. Its like we are witnessing a virtual arms race in this game. Its definitely interesting because it shakes up the old habits but I am not sure that its all that useful in the long run if with every civ is just going to get some massive power boost in one way or another after all the patches.

The first happened in 2012, the second in 2016… Also, the price that Indians pay to have beter camels (adn not that much better than say Sarracen or Berber) is having no knight line at all… you can’t call that “power inflation”

Welp, if they were FU there would be a problem. But if you rarely see stuff like say, Mayan 2H or Turks Xbows in imp, that’s for a good reason. And lastly, trashbows have got 2 nerfs already and chances are it’s not going to stop.

Welp, first one was bottom tier so something had to be done, while the second one got their only eco bonus nerfed in exchange for a bad unit. Overall it’s a nerf.

As long as they are given when relevant, this won’t happen. You can check the changelog, no top-tier civ, like Franks, Aztecs, Huns ect… got any buff.

No. You don’t see Aztecs being power creeped by Korean or Vietnamese.

Worry not: Aztecs won’t get any boost, nor will Huns, or anything that has been a meta civ for years. Also, massive boost were given… but only to the absolute weakest civs, like Khmer.

You do realise even with bloodlines, mongol lancers are still 98hp and knights are 120hp? And even if they were same HP, they’d still suck against knights due to worse armor and offensive stats
