Pausing Wonder Timer

I posted this in a couple of recent topics, but wanted to get a dedicated discussion started to see everyone’s thoughts on sacred sites being a better counter play to the wonder:

How does the community feel about once all sacred sites are controlled, this pauses the Wonder count down. In my opinion this would help prevent immediate hard turtling in team games.

For the maps with 3+ sacred sites, with only a 5 min timer differential, its pretty easy to contest them enough without taking them to delay the sacred site counter and overtake it with the wonder counter.

Agreed that could help. Gotta do something wonders are super lame.

This works until they also hold 1 site too to block that strategy.

True but at that point if they have some map control, are protecting their landmarks, and have a wonder. There is at least a better argument that team deserves to win compared to the current win condition.

I agree, it does add to the more strategic aspect too and others will have a better chance of winning rather than hopelessly trying to break their spears on a stone wall.

Also, this isnt meant to overshadow the other good ideas that have been presented:

  • Sacred timer scaling with number of sites. Looking at you king of hill. And I dont think anyone will ever get a sacred victory on Confluence.
  • Wonder cost scaling with # of players. Surprised the rush wonder meta isnt more prominent yet. Funneling money to one chinese player.
  • Shrinking 3v3 and 4v4 map size slightly
