Pillaging

For millenia the purpose of conquest for most civilization was pillaging. The act of taking other peoples stuff through violence.

Destroy an enemy building, get a percentage of enemy resources.

Could be an interesting game mode. Would break the main game but maybe as an extension once you conqueror a rival you gain some of thier tech or UU/UT?

Maybe destroying certain buildings or killing certain units gives you resources. Destroying houses gives you a female villager (could be a civ bonus)

To be honest I wish they would rework the whole way resources would work in this game. Resources should all be physical things that exist in the game world which can be manipulated as such instead of just a number in your GUI that is removed from the physical world of the game. Before being harvested, all resources are already in the game world as physical objects, whether it is wood, food, gold, stone, fish, etc… but when it is harvested it just turns into a number and no longer occupies a space in the game world. Resources should still be like actual objects in the game world even after being harvested. They should be stored in storage buildings like lumber camps, town centres, mills and monasteries and castles. And yes you should be able to take these from players if you gain access to where they store them by destroying their buildings. This would create so many cool things in the game. Such as players intentionally going out of their way to hide where they are storing their resources. Moving resources around the map to avoid losing them and so on.

In the old days a lot of Mosques and churches were built with the stones of “pagan” temples actually.Humans tend to use such resources again again. So when a castle or wall is destroyed it should leave actually a minable rubble.Maybe even with the collection rate of triple normal the stone pile(since processed stone blocks are far more easier to use than mining and then shaping the stone)

If cattle farming comes to the game in a proper sustainable manner(able to rebuilt like normal farms) than stealing the cattle could be a nice touch. It’s a bit harder to steal the grain :).

Houses and common buildings shouldn’t grant resources though.Historically you wouldn’t pillage an area and transfered wood :).Maybe very little gold could do the trick. But most peasants were very poor so that wouldn’t even make sense.Commerce and religion buildings on the other hand could or should give gold.
