Player colours in campaigns

Now I know that this is going to be another “make it more like AoK” post of mine, but anyway - don’t you think that seeing every single civilization you play in the campaigns as blue is quite boring?

Most RTS give their factions distinctive colours (the obviously red Soviets, yellow GDI, red Evolved - bonus points for finding out what game is that one from).

I think it would be good to give scenario creators the option to change the player’s color, but I think all the existing campaigns are fine as they are and don’t need to be changed.

It would be cool, but I do not think it makes so much difference in the campaigns.

We know they are making changes to the campaigns so stuff like this is not outside the realm possibility. It’s already perfectly possible in the editor. I think this is a good idea and I don’t see why it would be making the game like AOK. Being red when playing the Romans seems fitting given the (not true - but still) stereotype uniform look of the roman army etc etc

Yes, I think it would be a nice touch, given we have different colours in multi player

It’s not critical but yes, it would be nice. I’d also appreciate an option to choose a color for my units.

This creates a question the color aren’t related to players numbers?

I wonder if they can allow players in campaign scenarios to swap colour parameter without affecting player number. But it would cause some questions, eg the map graphics during the intro text have colours for different factions, we couldn’t have ourselves becoming the enemy!

I’ve played some campaign maps multiplayer before, and it’s hilarious when your friend becomes the enemy player

We usually play as the same player number for a co-op experience

Blue is my favorite color so I’m horribly bias. XD

I dont mind them changing the colors in some areas but if you look, historically ancient civilizations used red as a primary color all the time in their military. Rome, Greece and Shang just to name a few all used red as their primary color. Other nations barely had any primary color at all, it was totally mixed up. So I guess my point is it would be fun to have different colors but overall I don’t see it as very necessary.

What colors are in the game? I think Rome and Greek could be red, Egypt yellow, and Yamato blue perhaps.

Egyptians actually favored blue. This is seen especially in the blue crown worn by the Pharaoh while he was in battle. Gold was obviously a primary but I always felt they liked blue more.

Dude, sorry to say that but you’re wrong, red was not a color used in primordial civilizations, nor even in your military units! This is an invention and glamurisation of hollywood, the access and production of this coloring of fabric was difficult to make and was scarce until the middle age practically.

Btw, I already explained better about this in this post here, take a look !!! https://forums.ageofempires.com/discussion/911/accurate-representation-of-the-roman-legionary#latest

Aaaah, I didn’t know that. Honestly, though, you will be hard pressed to find many people who do not associate groups like the Romans without immediately visualizing red. It’s just not depicted any other way anymore.

Campaign colors is a 50/50 for me, but i would love to see unique colors or combinations for the campaign that could add depth to what you are fighting. Although for single player or multiplayer i would love to choose because i love sometimes seeing a shielded army that is yellow/orange that just looks gold and red that makes it looks evil, powerful, and menacing or like a white, black, purple that just a change of pace from the generic blue and red.

Blue always used to seem like “The good guy” to me, and red was “the bad guy”

That said, an option to change colors in Single Player would be much appreciated.
