Player numbers are growing?

Is it the Siege rework?

What’s going on?

The thing is, Age 4 is a great game that has been consistently improving over the years. Every time I play a different civ than I’m used to, I feel like I’m learning a new game, which has a great replayability factor for me. Personally, I can’t play the previous Ages anymore. Plus, we had the announcement of the DLCs.

Bro aoe4 is better than aoe2 in time it will compeletly replace aoe2 because new generation will play this game more.

Yeah, I don’t know. It’s weird for player numbers to go up in one of the driest periods. I think last patch was in November.

There was a sale:

its called DLC hype if anyone wonders

I think the increase in player numbers comes from a mix of factors. The announcement of two DLCs has definitely sparked interest, but the overall state of the game plays a big role too. AoE4 has seen steady improvements over time, and that naturally brings players back.

At the same time, player numbers in any game tend to fluctuate. People move between different games all the time, and peaks and dips are normal. What matters is the long-term trend, and right now, it looks like AoE4 is in a solid place with room to grow.

I don’t think DLC hype was that high in November.

The announcement happened in the past 30 days though.

I hoped this was it, but unfortunately the most probable answer is the price discounts the game has seen in November, December and January:

I think discounts definitely played a role in bringing in more players—lower prices always help attract new or returning players. But I don’t think that’s the only reason for the growth.

At the end of the day, AoE4 is a solid game that has steadily improved. Balance updates, quality-of-life improvements, and the announcement of new DLCs have all contributed to keeping players engaged. Many people naturally cycle between games, and when they see AoE4 in a better state, they come back to it.

Also, if discounts were the only reason for the increase, we’d likely see a sharp drop in players afterward. But instead, we’re seeing stable or even growing numbers. That suggests the game itself is keeping people engaged. Plenty of games go on sale but fail to retain players long-term—AoE4, however, continues to rebound, which shows there’s real interest in it beyond just temporary discounts.

i dont considerer a real gwotha s it happened before with the hype with other updates or dlc which will turn back to 8k if is the same case

Well there’s been one in every month, so no real time for this to happen. The game does feel more dynamic, and I enjoy where Siege is at currently, I think it’s in a perfect spot. Was kind of hoping this was the reason for the raising interest, but it’s most likely artificial with so many discounts lately. All of them were 50% off too. Last time we had a 50% off was in February last year.

I totally get where you’re coming from, and yeah, discounts definitely play a big role in boosting player numbers. A 50% off sale can definitely get more people in the door. But I also think the game is in a much better place now with all the updates, like the changes to siege, which I agree have made it feel more dynamic. So it’s not just the discounts—people are coming back because the game itself is improving, too.

At the same time, I can see the other side of things, too. Discounts do create a spike in players, and it’s possible that some of these new players might only stick around as long as the sales are there. Once those discounts end, the numbers might dip again, like we’ve seen in other games. So, yeah, the player count could partly be driven by temporary sales.

But overall, I think the key is that the game is evolving. If the updates and new content keep coming, I’m confident the player base will stay strong even after the sales end.

Yeah the changes to siege were great. And from the games I’ve watched in the most recent big tournament, none seemed to devolve into stalemates. I think competitive play is finally in a good place.
