DEVs, please respond and let us know why you will or will not acknowledge the massive user request of an active pause. thousands of posts requesting this across all channels and yet I’ve yet to see even an acknowledgment. why?
add one more to the list…LOL
to be added in in spring of 2025 LOL
I’m stuck at playing AOE 2 until such tactical pause is reintroduced to the series.
Playing solo, I’m looking for relax fun and strategy, Not stressful actions multitasking.
I mean, How hard can that be to implement this!! c’mon.
Until then, I can’t buy this. A deceptions after years of anticipation.
You should give Civilization 6 a try…
Great strategic game with loads of options.
The best thing is: it’s turn based strategy. So you have as long as you need until you pass on to the next round.
I still play it once and a while, it’s really good against stress.
Remember that Age of Empires 2 and 3 (original, HD and DE versions) all have tactical pause. Other Relic games (Company of Heroes 1, 2, 3, Dawn of War 1, 2, 3) all have tactical pause.
So there is nothing weird or wrong for AoE4 players to make this request.
I’m wheelchair bound without the ability to use my legs…sometimes I need a pause to adjust or to pee etc etc if I leave afk it ruins my game and arguably my opponents game as well. If I surrender the same thing. I think a pause that can be controlled by both parties so I could pause and explain if they don’t care well I’ll just surrender anyway and move on but if they wanna finish it gives us both the option to discuss it instead
I am not saying at all that that is weird mate.
Only that i enjoy playing Civ 6 and he could give it a try.
It is the game where everything goes at your own speed.
Very relaxing.
At last: the more options AoE IV gets, the better. More options means more people who can adjust the game to their liking. Win win.
Incorrect. Only CoH 3 is being developed with a proper Tactical Pause function. Earlier Relic games excepting Dawn of War III had the ability to issue (and register) commands when the pause menu was up, which didn’t really come across as intentional. As in, the pause menu would literally be obscuring the screen in some cases.
I’ll admit, I had no idea it was such a popular way to play a self-described real-time game until DoW III didn’t have it. But its inclusion in earlier games certainly didn’t seem to be on purpose. The active development of it in CoH 3 (and how Relic have advertised it during their pre-alpha slices for that game) only reinforces this opinion.
So in conclusion should add a pause option in custom games created like show score. And ofc no in quick match or ranked match
You might be right about Dawn of War, but Company of Heroes 1 and 2 do not have the menu when you press “pause”, and many SP players around me like to pause frequently.
Since you mentioned COH3, I want to add that this makes it even more weird to see that the other game that is being developed by Relic at the same time even reinforces the idea of tactical pause, while AoE4, developed by the same company and whose two predecessors both have tactical pause, does not have it and has not even mentioned it in the roadmap.
My complete guesswork opinion is that because they’re developing it for the first time, it’s not ready yet. So they can’t even begin porting it to Age IV. We may see it in the future, we might not see it at all. I don’t want to give any kind of false hope.
This is a worthless comment. It should be possible to create games where pause is not allowed or where it is allowed. Having games with pauses shouldn’t prevent others from having it without.
Sure its possible. But its been a year since the game came out and I haven’t played it. You can make games without color blind mode, or the options to turn off quick time events too. But if you make it less accessible in those ways you lose players.
_(ツ)_/¯
I have tried it, but a game takes a huge amount of time, even spamming the next turn or whatever it’s called button as fast as I can (not because it’s optimal play but I just get fed up with how long the game takes). I don’t think it’s valid to infer that just because someone wants to occasionally pause a 30 minute AoE game that the solution is for them to instead play a game where each game lasts for hours.
Pause → click Esc button in solo game.
What people want is to be able to issue commands while paused, like you can in AoE 2 DE, or CoH 3, for example.
years later and the devs still haven’t acknowledged this massively desired feature? it’s honestly hard to believe
is it tho, is it hard to believe, imo it isn’t, its a simple formula from what i’ve seen so far, 70%+ of attention to the 1v1 ranked/quickmatch/competitive feedback/direction, the leftover for everything else, like editor, campaigns, mods, AI, features like pause for example is squarely in that leftover as well, i don’t like that either as pause has so many good use cases for someone playing casually
yeah, it honestly is. most other competent game teams will at least acknowledge its user base if a lot are requesting a simple accessibility feature like “hey guys, we hear you on the and we are looking into that but can’t provide a timeline at the moment. thanks for being a loyal customer!” or something PR-esque like that.
as far as I can tell it’s been a case study in silence on that front here
thing is since the beginning of the developement of aoe4 the whole direction was completely backwards compared to first 3 aoe, why was the competitive multiplayer, it still is btw, the biggest focus, with like 70%+ of effort going to that, with only scraps left for everything else, in a world where 80% or more of players never even touch multiplayer, let alone competitive portion, its obviously not the way to go, but its clear that RTS devs didn’t learn a darn thing last decade, with every single game released repeating the same mistakes and then in case of relic giving the playerbase a middle finger with the statements that do happen, all of which can be read in following manner: we know better than you, but since you refuse to stop complaining we implemented x feature in this update, thats how every single public statement from relic is worded, just in variation, but this basic logic applies to all, and relic isn’t the only RTS dev with this stance, blizzard SCII support had similar flavour, but at least SCII was a work of art, a masterfully crafted game, aoe4 just isn’t worthy of that comparison with current mismanagement
