With the upcoming DLC introducing a bunch of new skins and reworks of existing civs, can we PLEASE have an option to reset our campaign progress, basically getting a fresh start to the single player of the game? This used to be possible before, where you could just remove your locally saved profile while disabling cloud sync in Steam and then enabling it and syncing the fresh profile with the cloud.
Ever since they introduced syncing with Microsoft’s own servers in the game, the only way to (temporarily) reset campaign progress is to block a bunch of links using hosts editing, but then you face connectivity issues, including being unable to connect to multiplayer servers and the moment you revert the hosts file/remove the blocked links, the game syncs up again and updates your campaign progress to what is stored on Microsoft’s server side cloud save.
So yeah, can we get an option to reset campaign progress?

Yeah, how about an extreme mode for each level i think someone asked that. I think steam achievement is good to incentivize player to replay but its not visually integrated with the UI in the campaigns.

There is already such an option to start with a fresh SP.
Its called creating an additional steam account and launch the game with it …
That is most definitely not a solution. This was a problem that did not exist and was created by the developers when they started linking the single player aspect of this game with the cloud. Why should I have to create a new account just to reset campaign progress?
I agree. So every time you want to start fresh you have to create another Steam account?
How many Steam accounts are you going to make in the end?
We all want that reset put in. The resets they post online don’t work, and if you ever want to unlock everything again right away, just use the cheat codes like a scrub.
Search the web Developers. You’ll see an endless number of posts complaining about not having a reset.
Put the “RESET CAMPAIGN” option in the game.

I’m not against having a proper option to reset campaign completion, but why not just use pen and paper to keep track of which campaigns you’ve completed on your second run?
It’s like saying why play a game. Just watch it instead.

OK, I’ll bump this here as I’d also like this feature.
It would make me happy and feel fun if I could play through again from the start, not being able to unlock mission 2 until mission 1 is complete, for the harder ones having to do them on bronze first to progress the campaign before perhaps coming back to do them on silver. Having the chance to notice which campaigns I haven’t played for ages.
You can already do this with a script to manually backup/restore files and with the internet turned off (or the API domains blocked). As far as I know, making a new MS/Xbox account and logging in with that doesn’t work as the profile is linked to your steam account not your MS account (but please correct me if I’m wrong here).
Making a second steam account feels like abusing the family feature, and if you do that to play online it’s usually because you’re smurfing. It won’t hurt anyone if we can reset SINGLE PLAYER features.
Are you based in the EU? If so, you can file a GDPR “right to erasure” request; the studio must reply within one month and either delete your data or explain why they can’t. If enough players do this, it might be cheaper for them to add a simple “Reset” button.
And it’s not just campaign progress: some data is stored on cloud servers and isn’t exposed in-game. You can tinker with Steam Cloud manually, but Xbox Cloud is much harder (see: Cloud storage full bug drops player, unable to delete cloud storage - #14 by cmfrydos ).
Going the legal route can be daunting, but it’s an option if this really concerns you.
(I’m not a lawyer: this isn’t legal advice.)
I’ve found a solution that works for me, disconnect from the internet for single player/campaign play and have a script to back up and restore player.nfp. I’m going to try poking the xbox/relic API at some point; I can get the local files to overwrite the steam cloud ones but AoE2DE seems to pull the MS cloud version into memory when it starts.
