Please change paladins of franks to use Frankish paladin skin

hi devs,

please add this as part, currently there are mods but they change all paladins, it will be nice to see the Frankish paladin skin used for paladins of franks. If players make such change then a data mod will be required.

please consider this request.

thanks

I don’t think they currently can without reworking their system for a while. For me, it’s not so much of a priority. I’d rather start with regional units for everything slowly being rolled out, like the regional trade carts, and possibly not worry about civ specific right now.

It would probably be simpler for the Franks to get a second unique unit, that being the Frankish Paladin itself, to be an upgrade to the Cavalier, a la Winged Hussar.

It would require something to make it different from a normal Paladin, however.
This isn’t a legitimate idea (it could be, but I’m not putting any thought into it to make it so) but for the sake of argument, let’s say the Franks lose their HP bonus, and gain Bloodlines. Let’s put a fresh coat of paint on the Frankish Paladin:
Right now it has the same stats as a normal Paladin, so to make it different, we could give it +5 +10 HP. The Franks have Bloodlines now, but they would still retain their high-health-cavalry identity.
It still wouldn’t be enough to differ them from their regular counterpart, so let’s give them something like +1 attack and armour. This would turn them into beasts of destruction and, coupled with Chivalry, Throwing Axemen and superior Light Cavalry, would keep the Franks’ status as the definitive cavalry civilization.
Obviously, that would make the Franks even more overpowered than they currently are, so the upgrade to Frankish Paladin would need a monstrous requirement, like +500 food, +250 gold.

As I’ve said, this is not meant to be a proper suggestion, but to provide an example of what the Frankish Paladin could be: not a skin, and not a hero unit, but a secondary unique unit for the Franks. I have seen multiple people wanting something akin to a Frankish Paladin skin, but I see potential for something more.

I will never get people who want reskinned Frank paladins. The unit is already covered in fleur de lys, you can hardly do better than that.

Not to mention franks just don’t need a buff.

Still hoping for teuton cavalier and paladin to be replaced with the crusader knight

If all the heroes using the frankish paladin skin gets new historically accurate skins then this would be a good change. If not its going to mess up lot of scenarios.

they wont… people are so conservative around here its unbelievable… apparently if you make a unit look different people are too stupid to tell the difference…

yet somehow AOE4 has every civ have a unique looking version of almost every unit and somehow people still can tell the difference… oh well… AOE4 players must be geniuses /s

Its a new game not an antique like this.

They won’t because the OP wants to reskin the paladin of the literally only civ for which paladins look historically accurate. It’s like asking for Aztec eagles or Cumans steppe lancers to be reskinned.
Btw the “Frankish paladin” is named like this only because it was planned to be the Frank UU in the AoK alpha, but ended up being used for the most random heroes instead. I don’t the think El Cid was Frank.

Ha. Trust me, I noticed the irony the second I made the post.
Anyway, it’s not that I want Franks to be buffed (I want them to receive a further nerf), but that should something like this be suggested, then it should be something more than just a reskin.

Yes, but the texture already exists. The only reason we tolerate it is because we are already used to it. I feel like if we already had unique skins for every region, people would freak out if Mayan Arbs looked European. And some of these textures already exist the Eastern Swordsmen, Norse Warriors, Amazon Archers.
