please do not bring ELO system make Seasonal Ranked system just like AoE 4 , SC1 , SC2
I don’t know why you like the seasons in game. Elo is buch better it doesn’t reset if you don’t play for a while, it keeps the rating forever. There is just one elo for one player, not like season 1 elo, season 2 elo etc and they are all different
but thats the great thing about reseting! in some other game i was stuck in one elo and couldn’t really get out of it. i like resets. and if you don’t play, you don’t play.
Most games have a classic ELO system but they simply hide it behind a seasonal ranking system.
For example (not sure if that’s still the case now) in SC2 you can not lose your rank within a season. So if you start Gold you will never downrank to Silver. But your hidden ELO goes down and you get matched against Silver players.
Iirc AoE 4 even remembers where you left of last season, so it’s more like a soft reset.

Hard/Soft resets are lame because:
- People don’t magically get better/worse. They take couple games to warm up, and this ruins the initial placement games of such systems.
- Pros vs noobs is just waste of time for both sides
Non reset system just gives better matchmaking.
However it is fine to have some elo decay at high elo for inactive players, for example top 20% players would get -25 elo per month they don’t play, up to -100 maximum. This would be good for players because it gives time to warm up with matchmaking that better matches how rusty they are.
I think so as well. A non reset system balances itself by having to play a few games after a break. Sure, no one likes loosing and you’re probably required to loose some games to get your actual rating but overall, it rewards peogress over time
