The Mongol infantry is too good and this is the reason why the Mongol players never made Mangudai as no one makes them and now they cost more gold. This means Mangudais will be harder to group with the Keshiks.
People mostly picked the Mongols because it had its famous cavalry army. But the game is allowing players to double-produce infantry units with stones! This is a huge problem! Making it an infantry civilization. The double-production needs to apply only to cavalry units. This way, the Mongols will finally focus their cavalry description.
Remove all advanced infantry technologies that apply to infantry units and also remove all movement speed buffs to infantry which can only be applied to cavalry and villagers.
The current Mongol civ never felt like a proper Mongol civilization. Thus, we add more cavalry-focused technologies and more unique cavalry units.
For example, 2 population villager with donkey or mule for Mongol civilization.
And melee and ranged cavalry units that can swap weapons or heavy horse archers.
I agree on this, i understand the buff to mangudais can be difficult to balance, but mongol civ atm is so ugly. I’d like so much for it to be a hit and run light cavalry, micro intensive focused civ.
I would make quite a few changes:
remove barracks from dark age
make only cavalry double production through stone
big buff to mangudais, make them effective against all melee units, including cavalry, but very vulnerable to ranged attacks
improved field engineers no longer make infantry build mangos and springalds on field, instead lets cavalry build rams
mangudais can hunt and carry deers through a unique tech
rework of khaganate palace: make mongols a settled civ: they can build palizades, walls and keeps, but can no longer unpack buildings and double produce units through stone
remove bombard and make hui hui pao trainable in all siege workshops
i’d say something about deer stones landmark but i’d rather wait for “khan’s hunters update”
Yes, Khaganate Palace needs a complete rework.
This lottery machine needs to stop existing. It could be the worst landmark in the game including some Chinese ones.
Removing barracks from the dark age could lead to no counter for cavalry as the Mongol Keshik is not tanky anymore. And the spearmen are still very cost-effective against heavy cavs. So let them train Spearmen, but no buffs and double production for infantry at all.
Yes, we should wait for “Khan’s Hunter”. I think it could be a better scout (the name sounds like a scout).
I didnt nerf infantry stats, just the Mongol movement speed buff and double-production, and everything that is related to the ovoo is removed.
The Mongol infantry stats will not be nerfed at all.
They can still train infantry in the feudal age as normal. But ovoo bonuses and Mongol movement speed from outposts will not affect them.
Instead, they will need a lot of buffs to its cavalry and new units techs etc.
Yes. That is why the devs will need to explore a way to balance it for solo and team matches. If it is not possible to balance it like that. They should simply remove the attack-moving ability and make it a heavy horse archer. Upon implementing this, maybe people will use the heavy horse archer more than the mangudai.
It was never supposed to apply for the Mongol infantry units. But the devs allowed it and that is why the Mongol civilization was never played like a proper Mongol civ
If you do some research on horse archers. They tend to shoot forward, behind and to the left. They cannot shoot to the right due to the bow on the left hand (most horse archers) and arrow on the right hand.
Now, with this information, the devs can limit the 360 degree attack radius to 235 degrees. This will limit the current Mangudai’s attack move capability to shoot any side regardless of anything. Then the players will be able to position their units on safe side of the Mangudai [where it is impossible to shoot/attack - right side of the horse archer]. From there and including some of your good suggestions will do a lot of good things to this civilization and the game.
