Yeah TAR is actually very good value and they probably could have squeezed more out of that. But Baltic Powers delivers substantially less and at a far lower quality for twice the price. I wish they would have done a little less but more polished content at a slightly lower price.
By far the worst thing is the advertising “OVER 25 NEW MAPS!” That indicates they decided on the high price beforehand and dictated there needed to be a large number of maps to justify it. And oh boy does the quantity over quality shine through there. Doing half as many quality maps and knocking a couple bucks off the price would have been much better.

This is our last chance indeed… I pre-ordered the DLC for 16.99 euros. I’ve played AOE3 since 2017 and I love it so much. We can’t back down ! Buy the dlc comrades !
To be fair, the Dutch civ has been getting small content updates across over the years since AoE3 DE launched.
Changing regular Dutch settlers to merchants and increasing the settler train limit thru various HCCs
Envoys being able to build various buildings thru “Peace of Münster” card
Dutch States Army: letting Dutch players go for merc heavy builds
Buckriders: giving guaranteed access to an outlaw unit (Highwaymen)
Waardgelders: Guaranteed Swiss Pikemen with cool unique skins
Belanda Hitam: the Akan are strong musketeer units that are affected by native upgrades
Blue Guards getting a unique skin, effected by Dutch infantry upgrade cards, promotions, and a way to recruit them via forts was nice too.
I do completely agree with you in regard to Dutch pikemen. They are affected by HCC upgrades to infantry but because they cannot be upgraded past veteran-level they are essentially useless in the late game. I know the Dutch halberdier is really good, but the pikemen still deserve a chance to be used more.
Given that the Papal Guard isn’t an age-up politician option for the Dutch, we got to go the British route and add a new HCC card for imperial upgrades. Here’s my concept:
"NassauPike & Shot Tactics" - Delivers 10 Pikemen and 5 Blue Guard Musketeers; grants Veteran and Guard Pikemen; enables Imperial Pikemen to be researched at -50% cost
The hero bundles they sold separately in the past where micro transactions but now they are bundled with a DLC which costs 20€, not very “micro” this transaction.
AoE2 also has those icon packs too. No idea how well they sold but they haven’t tried anything like that in a long time.
Pfff…it would be pure cinema if we reached the top 100 before the DLC release…
Yes, the worst part is that those DLCs at least include campaigns. The only good thing about these DLCs for 3 is that they add 25 maps to the game at once…
Yes, Fortnite and games as a service have done so much damage to the video game industry… “We used to release a lot of games, now we release a few games and squeeze them dry”…
That’s not how the saga works…you have a limited number of architectural sets and you put as many civs as you can into them…
I’m going to do it at some point… Gustavus Adophus (now I can do it properly, since I have Denmark and Poland; otherwise, I would have had to rely solely on Russia for the Kalmar War. Now I can do the Kalmar War against Denmark, the Ingrian War against Russia, both in 1611, the campaign against Poland in 1617, and then against the HRE in the Thirty Years’ War between 1621 and 1631), Suleiman (I still need Persia as a civilization), and Napoleon (based on the 2023 movie)…
Same here. I just hope that from now on they’ll see that it’s worth investing many more resources in this game.
Imagine if the DLC had come with a campaign set during the Battle of Vienna. How epic that would have been.
We can’t get used to this DLC format being the “new standard.” The game deserves better. If they’re never going to make another game like this, they should enrich this one as much as possible.
The new Baltic expansion will sell well—you’ll see; expansions featuring European civilizations always perform well. The Knights of the Mediterranean expansion sold very well and is highly rated so far, so we shouldn’t worry too much. I’ve already pre-ordered mine, and I know many people here have too; now we just have to wait for the developers to share more news following this new DLC. I feel there are still several issues to address regarding mechanics and innovation for some of the existing civilizations.
