Please undo a lot of sound changes, the old sounds were quite professioanlly done, please respect ES work

A lot of new sound work in the old games were quite well done, and so seeing them replaced in retold with work that is honestly just not as good is upsetting. I’ll list the biggest offenders here that I’d really like you to undo/fix.

The bow twangs that are frm the other age of games, they just dont sound good, and with how many archers there often are they become extremely loud and annoying. The sound should be vastly more subtle, or honestly just in the style of the old one, as I was quite happy with archer sounds in the old games.

The new voice acting. All of the old voice acting was good, none of the replacements are better. The voice actors themselves may be quite talented, but the reality is that the ES team was able to have a clearly better budget for VA and managed a very well directed and impressive delivery for the heroes lines in the campaign and for the ones that carry over to skirmish as well like Ajax. I respect the effort you went through to make these new recordings but the ES team really did so good and I really hope you can appreciate that this isn’t a place where your resources outmatch theirs. VA is not smth that improves in every way over the last 20 years, and its places like this that I hope you can see the value of respecting what came before.

I think it would be interesting to have an audio system like in AOE 4, with the sound of footsteps in the arm and noise of horses’ hooves which become a much duller sound with an army of cav

with a sound direction and distance system like on AOE 4 with the sounds of pac, combat, minesweeping, speech… and I think that this would enormously increase the immersion of the game.

by what I hear that the sound has been redone but I have the impression that the sound system is the same as at the time and that we should have a system with distance and direction worthy of today (example in aom there are more mining sounds if it does not appear on the screen)

I’m not talking about changing them but changing the sound system to have effects and add footsteps sounds which changes depending on the size of the army

I agree that the voice acting was pretty off putting. The way I see it, if Arkantos doesn’t sound anything like Arkantos, then I’m not going to play the campaign.
Either the original sound should be used or the new voice actor should try to sound as close to Arkantos as possible to the point where I cannot tell the difference.

This new style with the accent and everything sounds completely different. It’s like if Dragon Ball Z was remade and Goku sounded like not Goku. Nobody would watch it.

The rest of the new sounds were fine with me, but if its bothering others, then I say we just stick with the original.

Edit. They could put both sound systems into the game and users could choose the one they want to use

I don’t get why the voices were remade for the campaign. Also why some myth units have new voices? The minotaur’s voice is so bad imo.

Yeh agreed, not sure why they kept for the majority but chose to change for like one or two. Maybe put that on the feedback, about putting back ALL the original unit voicelines.

i like unit sounds like troll for example but i honestly want them to talk now too i LOVE the change that all giants can talk now, that minotaur can talk but still in a immersive way, that cyclops got overhauled (colossus, cyclops and sentinels had all the same voiceover in the original)

but its weird that nemeian lion talks now.

some walking, impact of attack are a bit weird for some myth units during others got improved greatly with cool new effects too and idles too.

but yeah its a bit weird that like 30% of units got a sound overhaul (in mostly a good and sometimes a weird way) and 70% are still the same old. bit confusing for sure.

I noticed that in the beta that there were some sounds that were identical or near identical to the original game.
Personally, I think all sounds and voices should be created from the ground up. Otherwise the sound inconsistency would be too apparent especially when the new DLC civilizations start rolling in.

You don’t want the new civs to sound all brand new while the main 4 still sound like they are from 2002/2003.

Upgrade/update all of the sounds, including the generic ones!

Absolutely not - you really want to get rid of the OG Prostagma?
People want their nostalgia tickled with this, it’s one of the reasons why the new voice acting for the campaigns is one of the more common complaints. Changing the generic unit sounds, especially the humans, would be a big no-no for the community I feel

Don’t change the lines but I think they can change the voice actors. Try to make it sound as OG as possible.
Reusing old files just seems a bit…

You have youtubers sounding almost identical to them when they were impersonating them. Shouldn’t be too hard if you hire a professional VA.

Just adding another comment to the long list of complaints about the Voice Acting in the Retold campaign. The original VAs were better. Its a combination of nostalgia and dramatic flair. The new voice acting is trying too hard to be authentic, and as a result, loses out on the sense of grand adventure and drama that the original had.

That said, I’m okay with some of the new unit voices, and not okay with others. Mainly falling in line with popular opinion here, as its a popular opinion for a reason lol.
