[POLL] In two months the next patch decides the final stats of Composite Bowmen. They should have . .

  • Attack ignores all pierce armor. Non-elite: 4 range, 4 attack. Elite: 4 range, 4 attack.
  • Attack ignores half of pierce armor. Non-elite: 4 range, 5 attack. Elite: 5 range, 5 attack.

Other stats here (Elite +5 HP, +1M armor, -2 sec training time):

The projectiles of Composite Bowmen move in a straight or nearly straight line and do not appear to hit secondary targets if the primary target dies, helping to differentiate them from other archers.

(The title is imaginative, just to suggest we let them play out in their current state.)

  • The Composite Bowman shares not only its name with the unit in Age of Empires, but also its arrow behaviour. In Age of Empires II, arrows shot by units are released upward at an angle and then fall down in a parabolic path, but in Age of Empires, all arrows move in a straight line from source to target. Unlike other archer units in Age of Empires II, the arrows of this unique unit has the same behaviour as its Age of Empires namesake.
  • The Composite Bowman has a shorter range than other foot archers in the game, including Crossbowmen, and has an armor-ignoring mechanic. In reality, the Mongol and Turkish recurve composite bows are generally considered the longest-ranged bows, and had generally weaker projectiles compared to crossbows or English self-warbows (longbows), as composite bows could be usually used only with lighter arrows due to their smaller size, while crossbow quarrels and longbow arrows were heavier by design, and did more damage on impact.

They just have to be nerfed. The gimmick should stay more or less the same

decompose the bowman

Units like the Janissary and War Ele that have been around for 24 years are still getting changes. I think the Compbow could use some changes, but “final stats…in two months” is a bit much, eh? Probably less base damage and/or training time nerfs. I think ignoring some percentage of armor would be more interesting, but I doubt they’ll go for that.

neither of your options make sense, the price of CB is almost the same as crossbowman, so it’s power shouldn’t be much stronger than crossbowman.

In castle age
CB causes 6 damage to Light cavalry and knight. crossbowman causes 3 damage
CB causes 6 damage to militia line, crossbowman causes 4 damage
CB causes 6 damage to elite skirmisher, crossbowman causes 1 damage
In the fights between archers, CB got 1 less range, 1 extra damage
In general, CB got literally 40% extra power than crossbowman

In imperial age, Elite CB causes 2 extra damage to all units than non-elite CB.

IMO, it should cost 55 gold minimum
