I think those kinda things are decided by Worlds Edge not by Relic.
And that majority is actually the 0.01% of the player base xD
actually years but ye
I never said to model it after the Burgundians, I just meant Orleans could act as the āsub-factionā of the French in AoE4, as Burgundy somewhat does in AoE2.
I tend to agree, and after the questionable decision of adding Rome into AoE2, Iām really starting to question what direction they are going in.
Thatās a whole different topic.
Rome is in all ways but one a completely normal AoE2 civilisations, it only slightly extends the time line.
It might have been a red line for some people but the game was already very close to this red line with the Goths and Huns anyway.
Here we have a complete new concept (variant civilisation), that are based on things that arenāt really historically that relevant or where itās hard to tell what they are even supposed to be (Empire of Jade) and on top of that have completely outlandish names.
For AOE, history is a part of gaming. Variant civilization is not a bad idea for me, but naming is super terrible. Jade empire sounds ridiculous.
If you donāt know how to name the new civilizations, how about renaming all of civilizations starting from A like civilization A B C D?
Honestly I canāt imagine a less relevant thing than the name of a new civ in this game.
Hoping that the balancing wonāt be complete garbage after this civ spam, who cares about the names?
Yep, those variant civ names are super duper ridiculous!
Man, youāre asking to get slaughtered for saying this on THIS particular thread
Iām broadcasting the competitive scene of this game, and thereās still a significant gap in terms of depth compared to AoE3. Even with 20 civilizations in this game, it can be challenging to balance but it is not like AoE3 because it lacks a Home City, doesnāt have as many unique units as AoE3, lacks minor civilizations, and has other issues that can pose balance problems.
P.S: And try to have more appropriate language.

A lot of people. If you donāt understand why, itās not your place to criticize them.
Right, but why do they care and why do they want others to know why it upsets them? These last two days have felt like a campaign to change something we have very little info on.
Because unfortunately the only way to get devs to change anything in the current gaming landscape is to complain ALOT. The variant civs are implemented terribly in terms of thematics, they need to be changed. The only way to change them is to make some noise. Also, waiting around for weeks until the expansion releases is not a good idea if you really want something changed.
Thereās no evidence that complaints from fans of games have had the ability to alter the course of development. Balance changes surely, but aesthetic design is outside of that kind of input.
There is literally precedent to change the name of civs. In AoE3, 2 civ names were changed because they were not historically accurate. In AoE2, Indians was a badly named civ from a historical perspective so it was split up.
How about the Whiskey Empire and the Vodka Empire? Make a spear out of jade? Can English people make spears with French fries? Can the French use LV as a spear?
And such games usually tend to fail hard.
