Came up with a quick run down of some possible ideas for aztec/mayan civ
Unique unit 1: jaguar warrior, lightly armored infantry unit wielding an obsidian blade/club
Unique unit 2: atlatl, crossbow replacement that throws armor piercing spears
Unique civ mechanic: sacrificial temple, sacrifice military units for a military buff or economy units for an economy buff (temples use stone instead of wood)
Unique economy building 1: 3 sisters crop farm, mayans used corn, beans, and gourds as the main crops in rotation because they each synergize with the other
Unique economy building 2: floating gardens, able to build floating farms on the water
Wonder: the Mayan calendar
Astrology? Not sure how to tie it into the game but mayans were known for it
Aztecs would be my favorite but I think itās hard to balance because of siege.
For the sacrificial u can give them a landmark in feudal to activate a buff. It counts the units u killed and for example u can activate a buff when u killed 20 units. Then the timer resets.
If u killed 40 units u could activate it for double time. U have to chose eco or military landmark. For eco u can increase gather rate, for military dmg or attackspeed and movement speed.
Or maybe a permanent bonus like each 20 units u killed your vills get 5% gather rate. But stop at 30% or sth.
For the military landmark increase melee attack dmg by plus 1 for every 30 units u killed and 5% life for military units. Max. +5 / 25%.
With the Vikings they could do a mechanic: you have to choose between 2 Religious Landmarks, a temple of ancient gods and a monastery. Choosing the Temple of the Old Gods gives you military bonuses, such as cheaper blacksmithing technologies, bonuses when looting enemy buildings, killing villagers, trading units and religious units, and access to unique units such as the Berserker, Huskarl and the Jarl. If, on the other hand, you choose the monastery, you will obtain economic bonuses and exclusive technologies that globally benefit the economy and commerce, greetings.
Warrior Priests can work at the Community Plaza and are counted as two units
Unique Aztec buildings
Community Plaza: Task Villagers on the Community Plaza to perform a poweful ceremony. War Hut: Trains and upgrades infantry units as well as defends an area with a ranged attack. Noblesā Hut: A powerful temple that provides an excellent defense and trains elite Aztec units.
Aztec War Chief: The leader of your Tribe. Possesses many powerful bonuses and abilities. Explores, fights and builds Town Centers. (Dark Age) Warrior Priest: Heals injured units and are also effective in combat. Warrior Priests are extremely effective when dancing at the Community Plaza. (Dark Age)
In the War Hut (itās the Unique Aztec Barrack-Archery Range mix):
Eagle Scout: Aztec scout that flings javelins from an atlatl. Helps the War Chief to explore the map. (Dark Age) Coyote Runner: Fast armored warrior. Good against light infantry and siege weapons. (Feudal Age) Otontin Slinger: Slinger. Good against heavy infantry. (Feudal Age) Puma Spearman: Warrior armed with a deadly spear. Good against cavalry and buildings. (Castle Age)
In the Noblesā Hut (Itās the Unique Aztec Keep):
Arrow Knight: Long-ranged noble that fires flaming arrows. Good against siege weapons and buildings. (Castle Age) Eagle Runner Knight: Nobleman that flings javelins from an atlatl. Good against cavalry and Coyote Runners. (Castle Age) Jaguar Prowl Knight: Stealthy noble armed with an obsidian sword. Good against cavalry and heavy infantry. (Imperial Age) Skull Knight: Aztec elite berserker. Good against buildings. (Imperial Age)
In the Dock (with the Fishing Canoe, Canoe and the War Canoe that are shared with the Mississippians and the Incas)
Tlaloc Canoe: Strong in naval combat when built in number. (Imperial Age)
I found out that the highest votes are currently from Vikings and Aztecs, and then I remembered the TV Vikings where Vikings discovered America. So itās also quite good for these two civilizations to join the game at the same time.
With the Aztecs,
I do not like both, the AoE 2ās (with siege weapons, generic units and and generic ships) and the AoE3ās concepts (with all unit types in infantry form)
I would prefer the way keep them autenthic - without generic units of base game civilisations or replacements
In AoE1, there is tech, which reduce the population requirement for infantry to 0,5 instead of 1
I would suggest it for AoE 4 Aztecs, to mass low armour infantry (light melee warriors, elite Jaguar warriors, Eagle Warriors, archers and javelin throwers) supported with warrior priests.
The Empires Apart has interesting approach of the Aztecs. the game itself is inferior AoE2 clone, but has some interesting ideas.
The Aztecs units evolve through combat instead of technology.
Ye the evolve thing looks good on paper but your frontline will mostly die fast so no evolve will happen there. Also if it comes to imp u fight with feudal units against imp units.
So you mean they stay aged up from then? Like Jeanne dāarc for exanple?
I would be OK with that but maybe you need to cut it so u canāt get imp units in castle as well and u need to balance the exp that it doesnāt take too long also. Hard one.
The problem is that you cannot give the Aztecs cavalry or siege machinery, unless it is in the form of infantry (or lastly, the siege battering ram to knock down the stone walls)ā¦ you can leave the Aztecs without cavalry, but you canāt leave them without a siege, otherwise no one would use themā¦
You get used to it quicklyā¦imagine that I had to learn 4 counter systems (AoE 3, AoE 2, AoM and AOEO) (I hardly play AoE 1)ā¦
Perhaps as variants of the English or a Celtic variantā¦
Delhi variantā¦
The devs had an idea of putting in a South Asian civ at some pointā¦
Abbasid variantā¦
Chinese variantā¦
It could beā¦although a DLC with Vikings and Aztecs would be kind of strange unless they call it ākingdoms of Vinlandā xdā¦
There arenāt much more options either, I consider the concept of AoE 3 more historically correctā¦ you would only be missing the 6 landmarks for the Aztecsā¦
It doesnāt vary too much from the Aztecs in AoE 3ā¦
Well the Mongols in AoE 4 are carbon copies of those in Empire Apart, so it could be done like that, why not?..Maybe could be a unique civ bonus
Aztecs (1200-1520)
The Aztecs are one of the playable civilizations in Empires Apart. They are based on the Aztec culture in Central America centered around the lake city of Tenochtitlan. Formed in the 13th century, the Aztecs were known for their military conquests, economic influence and practical of ritual human sacrifice. The civilization peaked in the 1500s during the arrival of Spanish conquistadors from Europe, whom subjugated the Aztec Empire through strategic alliances with their enemies. The ruins of the Aztecsā island capital became a Spanish colony that would become modern-day Mexico City.
Gameplay
The Aztecs are described as an aggressive civilization with a rather unorthodox tech tree. The Aztecs do not upgrade their units at their production structures, rather their units upgrade naturally and for free through combat experience. This encourages them to protect their most valued units for later offensives. The Aztecs completely lack cavalry and siege weapons, however they make up for this deficiency somewhat with their elite units: the fast-moving CuÄuhtli and the Cuachic, which deals bonus damage vs. structures. Only a handful of economic and military upgrades are available to the Aztecs, and they lack towers and gates entirely, encouraging them to act early rather than build up.
Two Aztec infantry, the Telpocapiltontli and the CuÄuhtli, have the ability to capture enemies as prisoners by dealing the finishing blow while their Capture Stance ability is active. Prisoners are a crucial resource for the Aztecs: certain powerful units and technologies, including both the Aztec heroes, are only available by garrisoning and sacrificing a certain number of prisoners in the respective structures. Prisoners can be expended for free, instant-training villagers at the Tecpancalli or a number of powerful technologies researched at the Teocalli Quetzalcoatl and Teocalli Tezcalipoca. As such, the Aztecs must constantly be attacking their enemies to exploit their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses, creating a rather difficult style of play geared towards offense-minded players.
Sure, exactā¦
A bit op, but interesting, I imagine a skull icon with a death counter as if it were WK40kā¦ xd
The dynasty was founded by YelĆ¼ Dashi (Emperor Dezong), who led the remnants of the Liao dynasty from Manchuria to Central Asia after fleeing from the Jurchen-led Jin dynasty conquest of northern China. The empire was usurped by the Naimans in 1211; traditional Chinese, Persian, and Arab sources consider the usurpation to be the end of the dynasty,[12] even though the empire would not fall until the Mongol conquest in 1218. Some remnants of the Qara Khitai would form the Qutlugh-Khanid dynasty in southern Iran.
The problem with mixing the Scots and the Irish into one civ is that their militaries were quite different from each other. The scottish favored pitched battles like most other european kingdoms, while the Irish used the foothills and bogs common in Ireland to raid and hit and run tactics, rarely getting into a pitched battle. The scottish relied on heavy mailled swordsmen and eventually pikemen, while the Irish mostly used the Kerns, light soldiers who utilized many weapons from short swords and daggers to Javelins and spears, and later supplemented them with irish horsemen (hobelars or hobilars), and the gallowglass heavy infantry.
TL:DR, scottish and irish armies were too different from each other to accuratly depict them with one civ.
kingdom of Castile or Crown of Castile / kingdom of Sweden , Norway or Denmark / for variant civ maybe a Hero for English like Richard / Delhi ā Ghurid empire / Rus not have idea / Mongol not have idea / Ottoman ā Navy of Barbarossa / Mali no have idea
