Poll: What is/are your favorite/s AoE game?

Yeah I definitely don’t agree with the people who say AoE 4 is a dead game and all that. Yes it lost a ton of players but what do you expect it was publicized a lot many people bought it tried it for a bit and then left I don’t think it is unusual for big game releases to have a big drop in players after the initial release.

Blockquote

I mean the AoE 4 section always has more threads and activity then say the AoE 3 section because there are more people playing it so it stands to reason they would see a poll especially one listed in the AoE 4 section and vote. I’m not surprised that AoE 2 isn’t the top even though it is easily the most popular, played and best rated game in the series. Because a lot of the AoE 2 players don’t venture from that sub forum.

Sure, I couldn’t have said it better…

Yes, I agree…AoE 2 players only play AoE 2…while AoE 4 has both AoE 3 and SC2 players…

Funny considering how hard they tried during the early promotions to make the game sound like an “AOE2 spiritual successor”…

One bad thing about this forum is that i’m sure some players who write, are not playing the game at the moment, because other aoe forums are being made to them, and because of this there are a lot of unnecessary complaints, since for this game it should change at all points.

Yeah there is some of that for sure. All the games have people who complain about them and say or make threads about how they are leaving that game or the whole series then continuously post.

Yes, and in part it is… but it incorporates some things from AoE 3 (landmarks, vizier points aka cards, the ottoman civ per se, pens and automatic mines) to not make it so “AoE2ish”…

I agree with you, I haven’t played the game since January, but I follow the patches and seasons because if it changes and improves…

Poll conclusions. Ty. @Carry_Potter_woll @AgeOfAwesomenes @KG19991380 @CagierNebula24 @MatM1996 @FiveWind6951746 @ArrivedLeader22. I look forward to your conclusions. All the best.

Well my conclusion is that this being the official forum is mostly populated and used by long times fans of the series who will tend to play the older games. And as I said earlier the only reason AoE 2 didn’t win is because the 2 players tend to stay on their section of the forum. But is still is kinda lame for lack of a better word that AoE 4 isn’t even close to the top in its own forum. And as for the whole Reddit thing I have never used it because I have never heard a single positive thing about it besides that it is a cesspool but it is a different group of people so results will definitely vary. Also I’m pretty sure Reddit has a higher volume of traffic

You’re welcome Adribird90.
Looking at the results, it seems the aoe3 fans are hungry for a new game besides aoe3, which ideally would be aoe4, considering the aoe3 numbers keep going down for various reasons.
Especially in higher elo it’s difficult to find matches there and the matches are kind of unblanced because of the neverending mountains of new asymmetric civs, it can’t be balanced for team games.
Let’s be honest, only competetive 1v1 players and casual team/campain/ai players still play it.
Team ranked is dead.

Hence, these people, really loving aoe3 but getting tired of it after so many years, wanna see something new.
They did set their hopes on aoe4 and got incredibly disappointed with the rough release of aoe4 lacking in almost every department.
They are now lurking in the forums, briging in their ideas and advice, how to finally make this game good.
All the strong criticism which keeps coming in here, should be understood as a frustration and desperation, seeing the series which you love going down the drain and fans’s words are not being heard.
At some point the voices become more louder and more frustrated, that’s a very normal thing.
Especially considering the silence from the devs.

That, so far, is my analysis of this poll.

When aoe4 was made and designed, the decision makers tried to orient it on aoe2 because that has the biggest playerbase and hence they were assuming this way it would sell.
What they forgot, aoe2 is over 20 years old and the longtime fans stayed there because they don’t want to switch to a new game. They don’t want to!!!
So it is mostly like aoe2, but not 100% and at the same time full of bugs, graphics and animations are pretty poor.
Why would someone from a super polished game like aoe2de switch to aoe4?
There is literally no reason.

Just people without a home (aoe3) would try and seek shelter there.
But it seems this new home has no roof yet and the walls are thin.
It doesn’t protect against rain and cold.
So they raise their voice and ask for further contruction-work, but there is no response.
At some time they shout “can someone hear is? please help!!!”
But there is no response.
And then they become angry and use bad language.
Very normal and logical human behaviour.

Long story short:
Aoe3 people wanna play aoe4, but the game is not ready yet, it’s still beta state.
So aoe3 people are waiting in aoe4 forum and bringing in constructive criticism, until something happens.
Until now, not much happened though, so they’ll keep lurking the forums.

You’ve seen the Reddit poll or you’d rather not?

Reddit represents the majority community of the game and they also don’t think highly of those who throw toxic slogans on the forum against AoE4.

I wouldn’t dare to say that they are a “cesspool” or that there are no players who have played AoE all their lives. Perhaps there is more than here.

Did you mean me?
Yes I’ve seen it.
You asked different questions in both polls, so of course the answers differed.

These are apples and oranges.

I hope you don’t take it personally.
Winston Churchill once said:
“the only statistics you can trust are the ones you have falsified yourself”

What I mean is, these are 2 completely different pools in different groups of people of different sizes in different environments with a different questions and (probably, that I can’t work out), different numbers of allowed answers to choose at the same time.

Maybe repeat the poll under similar circumstances and we get more out of the results.

Let’s see why you seem to be trolling.

When I ask “What is your favorite game aside from AoE4” I assume that everyone who votes also has AoE4 as a favorite because there is fandom for AoE4 there, the important thing was to know the second choice of the fans who play the game.

Yes, AoE 4 should have been AoE 3 but in the 20th century (1914-1991), not a botched 3D remake of AoE 2…I knew this was going to happen when they showed me back to the Middle Ages…AoE 2 is very hard to match, much less beat…

And quite a lot in beta… AoE 3 for the first 2 years, it already felt complete (although it lacked the European scenario, which was resolved with KotM)… today I consider AoE 3 complete, although I wouldn’t complain if they include classic civs of the saga, such as Persia and Korea or touch other regions such as Southeast Asia (Burma and Siam) and Oceania (Maori and Hawaii)…

Not to be rude but it seems to me that you made a poll it didn’t go the way you wanted or hoped so you edited the OP saying this forum is a bubble that doesn’t have accurate polling, made another poll on Reddit that was reworded making it an assumption that AoE 4 was the best then say see that poll is more accurate

I’m not trolling anyone mr. moderator.

You can assume whatever you want.
You asked 2 different questions.
There is no discussion about this fact.
Different questions, different outcome.
In 2 different forums of different size, history, playerbase and environment.

Why not ask on reddit at least:
What are your 2 favourite aoe games?

Come on…

I was honestly thinking the same dude when reading Adris posts…
Also, if there is an overrepresentation of aoe3, as you are saying and as the official forum’s poll presents, the game SHOULD be oriented on aoe3, as this seems to be its biggest target audience.
Why else would so many aoe3 players be interested in the aoe4 sub forum?

Here is my own poll.

Why do you use the forum of aoe4?

  • I’m interested in aoe4
  • My favourite game is dead, so I wanna find a new one that I like
  • I wanna troll
  • I play multiple games, so I like to discuss

I did the Reddit poll shortly after this one.

The reality is that there is more traffic there and if I put AoE4 in the survey it would come out as the first option (and I’ll bet whatever you want) because they are a fandom, so I wanted to know the second favorite option and it differs clearly and with a greater number vs subforum.

It is evident that there are quite a few more AoE2 players than AoE3 playing AoE4 and that there is an overrepresentation of AoE3 players in the AoE4 subforum giving feedback that they sometimes want it to be more like AoE3 when their target audience isn’t. is that.

P.S: I already did the survey there (I don’t know how to put multiple choice), but the result is evident.

Well I don’t do that, so not sure what you are talking about.

already wrote my conclusions right at the beginning, feel free to read, best regards
