So its really sad that the devs have for one reason or another decided to sell animated icons and formerly free to play community made scenarios. It seems the DLCs are going down hill and the new ideas or budget just doesn’t allow for DLCs that are comparable to the first few. Which of these two cash grabs do you think is more sad based on what value you get for your money, how much effort was put into crafting it, how it was marketed, and does it actually enhance the game experience?
- Icons DLC
- Community Made Scenario Pack

Why is this a debate? Icon DLCs are funny as it’s pointing out if your opponent is a nitwit.
The real sadness comes from the fact that this game was left with horrible pathfinding that i’d call game ending for 6 months without an update, just for them to lie about a new DLC which took almost no effort. What that really signals imo is that they either do not care about the game anymore or they want the game to purposefully die… hopefully though it’s just to sell a superior aoe2 version… even though this game is a paid product that should last forever

Where is the option “both of them”?

The icons look silly but at least they are original.

The icons aren’t that bad honestly, unlike the scenarios for that huge cost that’s not worth it

Should have added RoR for the reason, nobody asked for this. And TMR for the reason no regional pricing.

There is nothing to be sad about icon pack imo. Those who have extra money and want to support the devs now have a way of doing it. No need to be sad about it if you can’t afford it, as it won’t hamper your enjoyment in anyway. If you have FOMO, learn to deal with it.

I’m completely indifferent about the icon DLC, it’s simply some useless cosmetics.
The other DLC, however, makes me feel like the devs treat their playerbase like it’s stupid.

RoR is the best DLC ever made and people were asking for it before, here in this forum.
I actually really liked RoR but I think it should’ve been a standalone game, rather than being a DLC.

Perhaps so, but I got a whole new game inside another game for 75% of the price of the original game. No matter which way you spin it, that’s a deal.
ROR feels half-baked, some features from AOE2 like each civ having its language (or at least most of it, looking at you Goths Huns Italians…) are missing. Should have gone much heavier on the changes from AOE1 (why not add unique units and techs too ?) instead of timidly taking a few things from AOE2.
For V&V I’ll have to see what the exclusive scenarios are, some such as Oda Nob’ (the full name is censored, I hope the censor bot realises the way to repair its honour after this shamefur dispray…) feel big on paper, as well as how improved the old ones have been. The fact it’s community-made isn’t that shocking as Filthy already made some official campaigns too. So I’ll wait to see before going ballistic on it.
The icon pack, it feels petty. I’d rather have a client-side only (as it would alter visibility, don’t force that on other players), units reskin pack to have regular units look more in line with their civ instead of most looking western european no matter the civ, the only exception being camels and horse-archers that look middle-eastern and central asian respectively. But at least an icon pack is insignificant…

Only 38% of the Steam Reviews are positive as for Victors and Vanished lol.
First time an AOE 2 DE DLC has such bad rating.

Wish I could have given it one more negative review without having to buy it in order to rate.
