Portuguese should get siege engineers for free

The non elite organ gun is pretty much a weak unit considering its cost. To make it a more viable one needs to research 2 things as soon as they hit imp

1- The elite upgrade (1200 food 500 gold)
2- Siege Engineers (500 food 600 wood)

it would make sense if siege engineers is free considering that the elite upgrade is relatively expensive and mandatory. It will also fit into the civ’s identity perfectly and wont make it overpowered

Somehow good suggestion but ports got tons of buffs lately and their 20% discount on gold is the best military buff in the game so they are more than fine

Uh just buffing the unit itself would be enough no?

Organ Guns could use a buff but did you think it’s consequences about other siege units with discount bonus?

The main other advantage would be that Bombard cannons get +1 range, which sounds fine. Portuguese are supposed to be a gunpowder civ after all, and aren’t OP I think.

But Cactus is right, it would also be nice to just see Organ Guns buffed.

turks missing siege engineers. they should be the first to get it if u have some basic knowledge of history.

Turks have Artillery, which if stacked with Siege Engineers would be grossly OOP.
They miss SE for balance reasons.

Also, Turks did not invent Siege Engineers, the guy that gave them the Bombards was Hungarian, and the people that forged them were German mercenaries.

If you actually knew about History, you would know that the best compònent of the Ottoman forces (because you are refering to the Siege of Constantinople) was not even Turkish at all.

Turkmen were mostly Cavalry.
The Janissaries and the Siege Engineers were foreigners.

No. Too strong buff you asking.

Not sure if you are trolling or not, you are calling a one time late game bonus that only affects siege a strong buff.

Compared to what I have seen in DE so far, if this was implemented it would be a mediocre buff at best

No Im serious. For the same should I consider this topic a trolling shenanigan?

Give portugese a button “win the game now” that forces opponent to resign.

maybe they will find a way to lose with this one too!

It would “merely” mean that Portuguese win all early imp treb wars easily by being able to outrange enemy trebs. Even the Hunnic bonus isn’t as powerful in this situation, and the Huns pay it dearly by having mediocre siege weapons in general.
The worst is that it wouldn’t help organ guns since Port players would be too busy snowballing their advantage and prioritize trebuchets.

1 range on trebs does not translate to wining treb wars in most cases. Its like you are saying civs without siege engineers would lose treb wars cause of the missing range.

Siege engineers is more relevant to shorter range siege like onagers and scorps

First +1 range means the opponent can’t touch your trebs at all so of course they lose, and second treb wars often happen in early imperial age, where you don’t have 500f 600w to sink into siege engineers ASAP, so Portuguese would have an unfair advantage.

If a treb war happens later in the game then it’s fine for a no siege engineer civ to be disadvantaged against a siege engineer one (or for everyone to have trouble against Tatars) because then the player has had time to come up with a plan to avoid a troublesome situation. If they didn’t and lost as a result then they can just play again and tell themselves they will play differently if it happens again. There would be way less counterplay against a free siege engineer civ.

It’s a nice suggestion, though buffing Portuguese Imperial Age is pointless, they’re already really strong at this point already.

if anything they could give a discount to SE tech (not that porto necessarily need a buff so late in the game with everything they received lately)
