The Khitans replace the Farms with Pastures but they also have a bonus that makes them collect from Pastures 10% faster.
If we consider the collection rates in this video it would be a disadvantage for most civs to have a Pasture, especially in late game.
With the 10% bonus Khitan Pastures are a little bit slower then farms in the late game already.
They always provide more Food per Wood though.
It would probably be a debuff to all civilisations if given to them (besides the ones with herding bonuses like Britons).

I think we should wait out how this will turn out as an economy Bonus.
The pasture has the upside of making the res of food more upfront available, similar to Khmer.
But it also has a downside. It’s 100 W. So you can’t place it with 60 W in your stock. Also you might sometimes only have 1 vill working on a pasture which reduces the efficiency.
It’s a practical thing that can only be figured out over time when playing Khitans competitively.
And we need to wait that out before adding pastures to other civs.
Especially Mongols which would be my first associative civ to also get Parstures have the potential to become totally OP with their hunt bonus.
For me the Pastures look like 60 % Khmer farming + 40 % Teuton farming. Both are NOT overwhealiming eco bonusses. Khmer often gets attributed to that eco bonus, but for my take Khmer actually benefit more from not having to build certain buildings - the farm Bonus is solid, but on it’s own not a top eco Bonus.
I think it’s more neutral, but we really need to see.
PS: And btw great work from Ornlu, he really invested a lot of time in this to give us a nice pre-release impression.

It would be nice for other civs to have Pastures simply because there are unique technologies available there, causing the Khitans to have more than two unique techs. As I pointed out to @SirWiedreich in his video comments section, this is a radical departure from existing civs that I don’t really like.

Well of course Huns should have them.

Also: when we get cows on pastures?
I want my pasturized milk!

It can always be adjusted between the base pasture efficiency and possibly giving the Khitans some bonus to make up for a nerf, if they end up significantly stronger than regular farms.
Also making sure the mongol hunting bonus does NOT affect pastures might be wise.

That’s actually not what i meant. I meant that the “having more food on hand” effect of pastures could help mongols to snowball their early game advantages,
Hence the possibility of nerfing the pasture, say its food capacity, while giving an equivalent buff to the Khitans to keep them untouched. You can always tailor it for other civs through bonuses.
That way, it wouldn’t be a buff to Mongols Huns and Cumans.
