With Freyr they made a defensive focused major gods for the norse, something they lacked in their rather aggressive focused civ. What other gods should focus on that can complement their civs?
Following Freyr’s example we can layout the following simple examples:
Agressive focused god for the rather defensive Egyptians.
Siege focused Greek god as the others are focused on all other types.
Maybe Oracle and god powers focused god for Atlantians? To complement the new oracles and the cheap Atlantians god powers that can be recast indefenitly in retold.
What other plystyles or focus do you think the new gods could have to make an interesting new way to play the existing civ?
Yes, Apophis would be my favorite as a new egyptian major god and it would fit the aggressive take on egyptians perfectly.
As said, i see Apophis here.
I would rather say that a villager/economy focused god fits better because Demeter (I think Demeter is very likely because she and Hestia are the two missing ‘‘first generation’’ olympians). The special unit could even be a special endgame villager in some kind. But i get your siege idea gameplay-wise.
This concept could fit Nyx very well. Or mayb Kraios the ram titan because he’s one of the twelve major titans. Mnemosyne could fit well in both terms. Many possibilities for titans here.
Overall good ideas to give the old civs a new take with the new major gods.
That sounds pretty fun.
Not sure how that could work.
How could Monuments turned into an offensive tool rather then a defensive one?
It would be cool to see strategies about placing Monuments close the enemy base.
Big contender for sure. I like the idea of an economic focused Greek civ.
I wonder what a unique villager could be like. The Citizens are already kinda the super villager unit.
The Unique Unit could be siege though even if the Major god is mostly economic focused.
Or maybe even a Hero or Myth unit.
Aren’t all current Gods practically already Godpower focused?
Since Atlanteans already have the Greek pantheon maybe a Hybrid civ would be interesting.
Maybe give them the core 6 Greek military units instead of the Atlantean ones. That could be used to explain why the Atlanteans are like that in the Campaign.
Palace units would stay the same.
Not sure if it would be a good idea to give them Poseidon as a Major god since that one already exists.
I made a Demeter god concept a long time ago (way before they announced gods pack dlcs) and I gave her a unique villager hero: Triptolemus. He was the first man to be taught agriculture by Demeter and he was the one who spread agriculture knowledge across the world.
Poseidon should absolutely be available to atlanteans imo. I’ve proposed it already, greek military units for the atlanteans would be incredibly fun to play!
Besides the fact that i’m really no fan of ‘‘hybrid civ ideas’’, isn’t the whole plot of the atlanteans in AoM that they were betrayed or judged by poseidon so they abandonded him and the olympians?
Sounds like a cool idea.
Maybe some economy/villager supporters like the church dudes from AoE4 (holy roman empire) or a unit that can collect food faster (like the dwarfes with gold) or something like that. Maybe even a villager that can heal human units only or a villager that collects favor on farms (additionally to the food). I don’t know. There are many possibilities i guess.
Yes, but this would represent the pre-campaign Atlanteans. Still in the game lore, after the Titanomachy, Poseidon was granted rulership over Atlantis. This means the Atlanteans and Poseidon have a very long history together.
I think Demeter should have access to regular villagers and the favor collect with farming could be one of her bonuses. Triptolemus would farm much faster and maybe he could boost farming speed of villagers around him.
But the game represents the atlanteans (the civ) as the distinct successors of the people of atlantis. And atlantis at the beginning of the campaign seems to be a greek colony/city. So before they adandond the olympians they were a greek culture. So for me personally it is very good represented in the campaign that way. Having a ‘‘poseidon atlantean pre adandond’’ civ wouldn’t make much sense to me. Yes it’s a little bit strange how ‘‘fast’’ they developed an own culture/architecture etc. after that but the other way around it wouldn’t make much sense either. For me the new visuals (armor, architecture etc) could be seen as a mixture of developing further distinctly from the greeks plus gifts/blessings from the titans through old forgotten technologie and magic. Something like that i don’t know
Sounds nice. Yes she should have normal villagers. I thought it would be cool to have these special villagers as her special unit later in the game (her ‘‘castle’’ unit like the ones from the other greek major gods)
I get your point, but the greek architecture in Atlantis is only because the original game didn’t have a full fledged atlantean civ. They didn’t really developp a unique architecture in 10 years. It’s only a consistency error which was never corrected. But for my proposition to make sense, the devs would have to rework the first campaign a little bit of course. If they don’t do it, I’ll probably mod it myself.
I get your point too but i don’t think that’s the only reason. I think it is still fitting because they are greeks at this point in the story.
Yes, that’s what i was saying. That’s the little bit strange part about it haha But who knows how fast you can develope a distinct architecture and stuff with the power of titans
I mean they took the full fantasy road with the atlanteans anyways. In warcraft new cultures and architectures developed in very similar timeframes for example. Everything about the atlanteans in AoM is a little pit strange and ridiculous in my eyes But i started to like them over the time because at least it was a creative solution to include the greek titans as their own pantheon without making double the amount of greek civs haha (and i like the titans).
I always saw it as them returning to their traditions for before they worshipped Poseidon and not them suddenly coming up with a complete unique culture while sitting in Norway.
Interesting take. makes sense to me too. That would explain the ‘‘fast’’ developed distinction. They threw away the old greek culture adjustments and took their old culture back to life.
I agree, siege focus does not fit Demeater that well, and she is a strong candidate. But for Hestia I can see a siege weapon that hurls flaming rocks/projectiles and basicly works like aoe2 mangonel.
And I also agree Nyx fits the Atlantiens Idea- she has oracular powers and in some accords she or Themis are the first “owner” of the oracle of Delphi (or at list where it will be).
Yea that’s challenging. For now I thought about the possible basic ideas for an aggressive playstyle:
Monuments curse enemy villigers within large reducing their gather range, or some other debuff.
Barracks units can do bonus damage to villagers. As counter units they are usually awful for raiding. But something small like 1.5 can help.
It can be interesting to give mercenaries an aggressive role (aside for cheesy tc drop). Something like a Mercenary camp that can train them with some extra limitations so its not as fast as tc. Maybe only accessible with a god power.
Also a heroic myth upgrade that makes migdols spawn mercenaries slowly for free. Promoting you to raid the enemy or they go to waste.
Thats a neat idea!
I thought about a villiger myth unit that can be accessed in classical age (through persephone probably). Some sort of nymph that can gather farms and wood, with a special ability- Panic: make nearby enemies run away, which helps in protecting villagers and backline.
Monuments heal nearby Mercenaries instead of them loosing HP
Monuments boost nearby unit production speed (maybe barracks only)
But maybe Monuments should not really be offensive and the offensive power should come from something else.
Give the new Major God Khopesh Swordsman again. Not with the same stats that they used to have in EE though.
Kinda like an Egyptian Berserk.
Though I think thematically the new Egyptian God should be Nubian. Nubians will never get their own civilisation in AoMR so it would be cool to have them represented that way.
Nubians ruled over Egypt for some time so it would also be historically accurate.
They would just have to reskin the Pharao to be black and maybe a few of the other units too.
That sounds kinda cool.
We haven’t really seen that before since Dwarfs are not considered myth units.
Adding Nubians for Egyptians can be an interesting way to include them!
I belive any unit that looks different should be different, so if we go with a black Pharoah (logically) we can make him a more combat oriented unit more than the support he is for the other civs.
I’ve seen Nyx suggested for Atlanteans before. Khaos and Typhon too. And they all sound very cool.
But for several reasons, I’d actually suggest Pontos.
Yea there are a lot of options. My point in this post was to discuss first in what new ways can we play the old pantheon that can be a base for a new major god regardless of what major god it will be at first.
