We really need to do something for people who leave games. Every time they see that they’re going to play someone of a higher rank, they leave and we’re wasting an awful lot of time with that.
It has to be a loss for them and a win for us. And they have to have a time penalty for restarting a game.
I don’t play AOE4, but I understand why people would leave. Would you rather have them get beaten up and waste time? It’s pointless, and staying in a round like that wastes even more time.
No, but they should be facing players at their rank. If that can’t be fixed, then they should at least receive a small handicap bonus when playing against higher ranked players.
If you don’t play against players at your rank, you’ll only get frustrated. You can’t just jump to the top and play the hardest ai possible when you only just purchase a game. Forcing players to face other players with superior skills is like allowing smurfing.
That’s what MMR is all about: you’ll be up against opponents who are more or less at your level, less strong and stronger. But if you’re frustrated because you’re losing, you’ve got no business playing competitive games. That’s what Candy Crush is for.
Then competitive games shouldn’t exist, because they’re composed of stress, and you’re crazy if you think a match-three game can’t get frustrating. Getting stuck on the same level for so long is no fun.
It honestly doesn’t even seem like you’re even taking the time to read what I’m saying. You just reply to sound superior. I considered your topic’s opinion, but it’s not right to punish players just because they can’t have a balanced fight.
Also, you didn’t defend your point that well, instead you just tried to shoot me down for pointing out the problems with punishing players like that. Losing to a higher ranked person will only discourage them even more, and then there’s the chance of a jerk calling them a noob at the end of the game.
That is why lobbies have to be made anonymous ASAP, rank not shown either.
Just skip the stupid lobby thing in QM and ranked.
It’s a relic of ancient times and unneccesary when you are in auto-search anyways.
I’ve been asking for this for ages but Relic/Microsoft don’t give a damn.
It’s one of the reasons the game is slowly dying.
But why listen to the players?
The Devs/publisher know SO MUCH BETTER
There we go again with baseless assumptions that this game is dying. I’ve heard this since launch and guess what it’s still here with a healthy player pool & the most successful DLC in age of empires history. On steam currently on a Wednesday lunchtime it’s 7002 players playing with 12958 players 24 hour peak. In comparison, AoE2 has currently 10 000 players playing an hour ago, so it’s not that big of a difference.
And what was done with the cashed in profit?
Well, it went into manager’s pockets and is now lost in space.
I don’t see even 10% of it being reinvested into the game through support.
That is some next-level cherry-picking.
Again →
If you open your eyes, you can see a 34% decline in the playerbase since the Sultan’s release.
Because Relic/Microsoft fu***n ran away with the profit and don’t support the game.
We are now back at pre-Sultans playernumbers, which is a severely bad sign.
If Microsoft/Relic don’t get their ass up timely and freaking fix this game, it is gonna decline even more rapidly in playerbase over the next months until it goes from cash-cow to poor-dog-state.
As with every game out there, no game ever has the same amount of active players forever and this comes down to that people mostly play other games as well and especially when new games come out people go away for a bit to play those as well.
I can say the same thing for AoE2, all time peak was at 38 725, and now it’s at 10,142 players does that suddenly make it a dying game and a failure? Not at all, this is the normal cycle of a game and to expect anything else is not logical.
When you consider how unpopular RTS are compared to other game genres out there today, this is a pretty healthy pool of players for both AoE4 & AoE2 DE and to expect bigger numbers for active players is again not logical for a genre like RTS today.
You claim that Relic/Microsoft have run away with the profit they made from the Sultan expansion, where is the proof? Show me real proof and evidence that this is the case. You can’t because this is all made up lies that you come up with to suit your truth about the game.
Gamescom is round the corner, and we are soon in Autumn, the time for the next DLC reveal is upon us, and they will most likely start sharing news about it after AOM Retold has released and got its spotlight for some time.
No game is perfect, AoE4 still can become better, but to say that it’s dying when it’s not just because you have issues with this game is just pure lies.
That is not the same thing.
Aoe4 peak is 65.000 players just on steam, not even counting the xbox service!
And why are the so “unpopular”?
Because companies like Microsoft refuse to delive triple aaa rts but market it as such and sell it for 60€ after building a massive hype, but don’t deliver!
People are just so catuious because of constant disappointments that they don’t believe in these games anymore.
Aoe4 is the prime example.
It’s a disgrace for the aoe series.
Again, it’s the publisher’s fault, it is not a fanbased problem.
Show me the massive patches which happened in last 6 months.
I can’t find a SINGLE one.
Money is drained into manager’s pockets, fullstop.
No hacker problem is tackled AT ALL.
Where is the massive patch being promised since after DLC?
Ok this is now worth a report.
Publically accusing me of lies when I’m speaking truth is just unacceptable.
Next dlc? Again cash in?
We still haven’t seen the expected and promised patches/support that we paid for with maingame+last dlc.
No, it means you’re not explaining the relevance beyond your usual crusade against the game. That’s all.
Like, I agree with lobbies being anonymous (or at least player names / rank being hidden in some way). I just don’t agree that “the game is dying”, or that it’s relevant to ranked improvements.
Ok to put it simply.
I am absolutely furious about how Microsoft has handled aoe4 since pre-release.
Absolutely furious.
And their empty promises and ingorance.
It’s the same thing as both games have seen a heavy decline in active of numbers of players, but the point is not that, the point is that both games still have a healthy active player-base that is enough for competitive play.
We definitely don’t see eye to eye on this opinion. AoE4 is by far the best game in the franchise in my opinion, but we shall just agree to disagree on this point.
The fact of the matter is that RTS is just not as popular not because there aren’t any good games out there, but because most people don’t want to jump into the big learning curve that normally comes with any RTS game out there. You have to think about a lot when playing this type of game, and it can be daunting, and that’s why you don’t see the same number of players like Fortnite has as an example, and it’ll most likely never get to that point unless more people are willing to try RTS games out.
You don’t call every major patch that has come with each new season the past year big patches? They have done so many things, even improved the graphical textures in some parts of the game, such as the water to name one example. Hackers will always be an issue to any game developer, no matter how much resources they put into it, the hackers will always get new ways to ruin someone else’s experience in the end.
I agree that their communication can become much better when it comes to dealing with such issues, so that the community can get the knowledge they are indeed working on it, but I don’t expect them to reveal everything they try to do in order to address the cheater problem because that would just worsen the issue at hand.
Worth a report for telling you that you are making up assumptions? Since when is this worth a report? You say you speak the truth, but you can’t give any real facts that make your arguments remotely true about the game dying.
This might come as a surprise to you, but at the end of the day, this is a business, and they need to gain profit in order to put new time & resources to continue work on the game. And they have delivered on many occasions, but there is still much left to do, and I’ve faith in them judging on their work up until today that they can and will do it for as long as there is a community that want to play their game. Patches & DLC’s is a big part of any AOE game and this is how it’s done for every age game apart from AoE1 for some reason as they have forgotten it.
They have shown that they have invested in this game, in many occasions, only you don’t want to acknowledge that.
