Iâve heard that this ââissueââ was an intended design decision in retold. But i have to say i love the fact, that people continue to report it as an error because IT IS an error. Intended or not. It doesnât make sense. It takes a factor away from the game without adding anything.
The only argument that speaks for this ââdesign decisionââ is, that a random spawned wolf, that kills your villager could be an ââunfairââ random factor if your opponant got lucky avoiding wolves.
But if this kind of âârandomnessââ is a problem, why even bothering around with âârandom mapsââ in competitive matches if you could implement pre build maps for competitive matches like in starcraft, warcraft, command & conquer and so on.
,Oh, but whatâs about scouting. Scouting unexplored maps is a so important game element of the AoE franchiseââ
Scouting ist still very important in pre build maps. You need to scout expansion/resource spots to see if your enemy tries to claim them and when he is doing so, you need to scout your enemy to predict their ongoing strategies and you need to scout to see whatâs going on in this momemt on the map in general.
The only reasons to have random maps for competitive matches ARE the random factors.
I would even say, that the setups for the âârandom mapsââ in AoM are often so ââunrandomââ that pre build maps would be better for competitive matches because then it would always be a very fair setup like in other RTS. I personally love random maps (obviously, as a random map scripter myself haha) but they are per definition not 100% fair because that would mean that they have no âârealââ randomness.
But to be fair, thatâs another topic. Sorry for the long post.
Hi! Thanks for the reply! Please put some consideration into this issue. The original AoM has predators attack villagers as do the newer entries to the age series (eg bitey infantry in AoE4). Most players want predatory behaviour from predator animals despite the RNG factors that would result in.
I liken this issue to AoE4âs stationary chicken statues in TCs, where it detracts from the immersion. But friendly apex predators that your villagers can pet takes it to a whole other level
Then wouldnât a proper solution be to make a tiger a squirrel, a lion a raccoon, a wolf a coyote, a crocodile a turtle, and a bear a goose? Why make apex predators be tame sideshow creatures? Arenât tame predatory animals equally, if not more, annoying?
As is, I think a mini-game should maybe be added where villagers can sit on a stool and sketch or take photos of these creatures from a mere meter away. It could boost civ happiness thereby increasing the rate of villager creation
Citation needed. It was in the original game and itâs in all the other Age games. It was stupid to remove it.
It was clear in the beta that they originally intended predators to be how they should be and the Lure God Power was supposed to pacify them, but they probably couldnât figure out how to do that so they just got rid of the behaviour. But not wanting them to attack your villagers is just lame.
And itâs part why I have issues playing AoE4 sometimes.
Random wolve attacking a villager isnât fun at all. The argument âit was like that and is the same thing in otherâ is one of the worst ever.
What does it brings to gameplay ? Nothing except frustration. There is no skill only luck.
If there were some neutrals units defending Settlement for exemple it would be cool. But predators ? Not interesting
you are not supposed to have villagers venture outside base like its nothing. there HAS to be dangers. it was like that in AoE1, 2, 3 Myth and finally even 4. Predator animals HAVE to attack villagers on sight. we want this and we should get it because its clearly marked in the description my guy
