Greetings everyone, I hope you’re doing well. Now that the developers have released the final official DLC from the roadmap, do any of you think we’ll see new pantheons by the end of the year or sometime next year? Do you have any idea or indication that new content is in the works, or do you think the developers will take a break before releasing more material for Age of Mythology Retold?
My prediction goes as follows: In the second half of 2026 we hopefully get the fourth major gods for the egyptians and the atlanteans. A great way to continue from here would be to grant us the celts in the first half of 2027 with a bigger campaign. The second half of that year the chinese and japanese receive there fourth major gods and maybe some stand alone scenarios as well. 2028 could then start of with the babylonians and the biggest campaign scince FotT and close with the fourth major gods for the aztecs and celts with some additonal stand alone scenarios. 2029 could be the year they flip the script on traditional cultures and grant us the complete turkic pantheon (all four major gods at once). The fourth babylonian would arrive in the middle of that year and the year closes maybe with the Yoruba pantheon (also all four major gods). No stand alone things in 2029, scince two new pantheons and a god pack are already streatching the limit. In 2030 we could recieve the last pantheon at once and from there it’s only smaller things. It’s very very unlikely to happen, but i got hope.
Again, this is just a prediction based on my hopes and dreams. I really really hope we get a turkic pantheon though, it’s my number one wish for this game, besides bug fixes and further gameplay improvements.
I try to stay optimistic: I would love another expansion pass with the 4th god for og civs and maybe one last pantheon in the last part of the year, but I don’t know. The fact that the devs allow modders to make new cultures and civs now, and no new mention of new content in the recent patch notes make me a little esceptical of any new content. We just have to wait and see.
Yeah the first comment here I think is in dreamland, the player numbers are low on steam, even lower than aoe3 which got canned so I think we will be lucky to get anything else at all
TBH all I’d like to see is the Celts - I’m ambivalent about the 4th major gods, and other civs like Mesopotamians would be nice, but if they just released the Celts as a final civ and left it at that I’d be ok. Disappointed certainly but with 8 civs, 4 originals, 4 new, seems a decent trade-off and more than likely 4th gods for Egypt and Atlanteans seems a natural point to end it.
My prediction is that, perhaps late this year or sometime next year, they’ll announce a new pantheon—most likely the Celtic or Inca one—along with a new major god for the Egyptians. After that, the logical next step would be to release a final pantheon (possibly Persian or Hindu) and add the missing fourth major god for the Atlanteans, effectively wrapping up support for AoM: Retold. Of course, being an optimist, I’d love to see content updates for years to come, but given how AoE III was handled, I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high for this franchise. On the other hand, we have to remember the developers have been working on Retold for two years; being stuck on a single project for that long can become a bit of a drag, so they might step away for a while to clear their heads—perhaps by returning to AoE III development—before potentially coming back to launch new DLC next year. Who knows? Anything is possible.
tomorrow will be announced 4th egyptian god
The devs surely know that we, the players, would pay good money for our collective requested new civs and fourth gods dlcs. Here is a more reasonable approach on how this could look like:
Two more expansion passes, one in 2027 and one in 2028.
2027: A three part expansion pass with: 1. A god portrait bundle for every major god that doesn’t have a second option for their portrait after the ultimate fan pack dlc. 2. A Celtic civ (based from the legends of ireland, scotland and manx) and 3. The fourth egyptian major god
2028: Another three part expansion pass with: 1. Individual titans for every major god. 2. Either a Mesopotamian civ or the turks (i’m cool with both but lean more towards the turks) and 3. The fourth atlantean major god
And maybe if we get lucky and the numbers add up we see every pantheon get a fourth major god in 2029.
But that’s just speculation
My prediction? They’ll keep on patching the game which reintroduces new bugs while leaving attack move in a worsening state.
People are too obsessed with player numbers. What matters is sales not active players.
AoE3 is free to play, in case you forgot that. Also AoE3 is a PC exclusive while AoMR is on Xbox and PS5 too where we have no idea how many copies they sold.
AoMR is also way more of a single player game then AoE3. Many people thing AoM always had a better campaign then an AoE game. People that buy the game for the campaign don’t stay to play online multiplayer. So less active players doesn’t mean less sales. We don’t have DLC sales numbers but we have achievement completion rates. 1% of AoE2DE players have “Victory with Mapuche” while 3.9% of AoMR players completed the first campaign mission for the Aztec DLC. So the percentage of AoMR players buying the DLC is probably 4 times as high as AoE2DE players. Older DLC have similar numbers.
Yes, we don’t have the console numbers, which can be potentially big, as the controller support is considered at least decent.
And high player numbers can actually be deceitful, as they are usually active multiplayer people that do not necessarily buy the DLCs
Yes it’s a good job it’s on console or it would look good,
To say the game has better dlc sales than aoe 2 though isn’t correct, there are far more DLCs in 2 and they wouldn’t have made them if wasn’t selling and again that’s steam numbers not console
The campaigns are good and better than aoe3 by far but they are also more expensive to make id say and the numbers need to add up
Maybe they will go back to 3 and then come back to AOMR who knows but its about time we had a second half of the year roadmap
I just mean more DLC sales compared to the player base, not overall.
AoE2DE has like 5x as many players so 1% of that is more then 4% of AoMR players. But most people probably instinctively think AoE2DE DLC must make like 5x as much money, while in reality it might just be 2x.
I think they are making a profit. The question is if it’s enough profit for Microsoft. They decided that Xbox needs to double it’s profit margin recently so now they are firing a lot of people to lower costs.
AoE/AoM seems to be unaffected for now though.
Let’s hope the developers give us a surprise at the end of the year; I would really love to see a Celtic, Hindu, or Persian pantheon.
We got the gamescon in August. Justo saying…
