Micro - AOEIV does not have any micro and it is true! Finally, a pro player expresses their true feelings about this game. AOEIV’s micro gameplay is the worst in the franchise. Booming and defending is the best decision-making choice because arrows will never miss thus all castles etc will deal enormous damage while just gathering resources and spamming units. The attacker will take a lot of damage and give up as there is no micro to define someone’s skill and turn up the tide of the battle. DOTA2, Warcraft, etc all have some ability or micro to change the tide of the fight. But AOEIV is all about sitting in the base and spam units and defending with siege and all is good.
We all can agree that AOEIV’s sieges have huge design flaws and cannons don’t have any aoe dmg, always hit their target, and so on. It doesn’t require any skill to create a gap between a good player and a bad player. It was all about good decision-making players. For instance, in CSGO, I lose a round because of my teammates, I have less money to buy guns, but I am good at aiming and hearing footsteps. The other team is just decent players who play casually with mediocre aiming skills and start with a lot of money to buy grenades and good guns for the upcoming round. I can turn the tide in any round and win some of it. But in AOEIV, whoever has a better eco and sitting in the base wins. And Vortix is damn right about it.
We all know AOEIV has fewer viewers on any channel than its older AOE2DE title. AOEIV was supposed to be the next AOE2 that was upgraded with lots of features and good things with graphical improvement and animations, but it was not and that is why the game is failing and literally everyone said it from day 1.
He said competitively dead because the pros cannot make much money and will lose interest when they cannot live off it. I really hope Microsoft or the people who are responsible of this game listen to the sane people who are telling the true problem and not the ones who are paid to spread misinformation.
Wait, so we’re listening to pro players now? I can’t keep track. I thought listening to pro players was bad because they’re responsible for all the bad changes in the game?
Or maybe because it’s just his opinion?
I mean, VortiX is known to be frustrated at certain aspects of AoE 4, especially walls being too strong that discourages aggresive play. He’s also known for switching games as Beasty mentioned in a reaction.
However, I don’t think this is posted to “calm others” as he also noted that 4 grew on him, despite the flaws.
It is always for that reason. He doesn’t want to look bad for any tourney organizations etc.
This is what Viper and others do. They keep it safe and when the time comes, they can return and grind a lot of money. This is what pro players always do. Maybe you don’t know what this kind of career is.
Well, then why did Hera basically ragequit AoE 4 with Golden League but was later then still invited to an EGC tournament, even if it was for AoE 2’s Rome DLC?
He left AOEIV and again, he simply praised the game after a new update was released and got the points for tourney organizers. They do this all the time.
I’m confused. He wrote the thing you don’t think is accurate to calm others down, but the thing you made the thread about is accurate because . . . you think it is? Or because he does?
Vortix made that post to clarify because people were doctoring his words and inserting their own narrative. This seems to be a common trend among critics, which is a shame because there are issues to be worked on. We all want the game to improve, manipulation disturbs that process.
It’s also kind of funny that you take him at face value when you see what he disliked and then discredit him when he talks about what he liked.
Others in here think I discredit him. But it is what pro players always do. It is a career thing and it needs to be carefully crafted. That they do not understand at all.
I’m no pro but I’ve stated for some time now that this game favors defense boom. It heavily punishes rush and aggro hence why french when they lost their eco bonus villager production was in the low 40% win rates. And in tournament french was an auto loss.
In base resources are too abundant and safe hence why defense boom is meta. Praire map had the right solution by decentralization of resources and the scarce in base res (although having to make a lumber camp every 2sec…)
Fixes:
Put both teams in base gold always upfront and unsafe. Also cut gold from 4000 gold to 2400 gold. Reasons being to force you onto the map sooner.
Next increase farm and pastures and livestock ranch up by 33.33% in wood cost (100w farms, etc etc). Reasons is to further incentive players to move out onto the natural food resources if they want to maintain optimal productivity.
Likewise reduce berries by 2 bushes in base and put 2 bushes more on ALL out of base berry bush batch.
Playing for the map should always be the underlying goal for all civs, one way or another. More should be done to incentive map control. These are just a few things that will place a premium on map presence and control.
i said “mostly” and one of those few truths about them is about their bad reaction towards bad designed game. i previusly responded about the lack of a good pathfinding and the lack of improvements that eventually went toward in a discussion war on several threads if you remember. I remember when back then the game was supposed to have activated skills on some untis like sc ones but was badly implemented that it lead to an unbalance and the mega nerf to UU. the lack of interesting and fun mechanic made pros eventually leave for the lack of audience as the game was won whoever has the best turtling and the new emergent rts which those 2 lead to a lower prize pool .
yes but is also the idea i defending because i said those ones years ago when marcoracosta was here in this forum
also is funny that a mojority of the coucil’s member were pros, caster and player from aoe 2 and other comp games which is funny because later on they are the ones who whine on their own creation
That’s not true at all as I elaborated in another thread. The Council originally consists of players of all Age games regardless of skill level. The pros that are active today only joined later.
Thats not true. There is more macro than micro in fact and I think that’s great. RTS should always be a decision-based game and not a game that requires very agility and high APM.
In the end, it’s a matter of preference, If you prefer Age 2, just go play It. I prefer Age 4.
Unfortunately the decision most of the time is to barely make any units and just hide in base because (capital) towncenters have the most insane dps vs light units of any rts I have ever seen.
And attack prio adds further to that.
It is a fact, you can NOT fight under enemy towncenter unless you have massive heavy frontline or outmass him multiple times.
