Probably way too optimisitic thought on a DLC hint

To be precise: by their in-game name.

Nah, I don’t get extra info far in advance. I just messed the dates up.

It actually does. From the various Discords I’m in that primarily focus on MP, a split would be if Chinese would be treated exactly in the same way as Indians were treated. Adding 3K that are from the same location but different period does not count.
The main problem in those places were also the heroes.

You really like to play word games huh? Ask any person with common sense if they think it’s a split.

And ask yourself, if Indians were kept in the game along with the 4 new civs from DoI, would it suddenly not be an Indian split?

No. (twenty characters.)

Is to call them out as incompetents, betrayers, and liars.

No. I only stated how I and other MP-focused players do not see 3K as a Chinese split from a pure gameplay POV. The old Chinese are still there, they only got a rework in the same vein as Byzantines and Persians where a generic unit was replaced by a regional unit (Rocket Cart) on top of getting a new regional unit (Fire Lancer) as well as new unique unit via an upgrade to a regular unit (Dragon Ship).

I leave playing word games to others.

Indians were kept in the game. Officially, Hindustanis are a renamed and reworked version of Indians. See the following news article, announcing pre-orders of Dynasties of India:

It says “Hindustanis (previously Indians)”, and explicitly says that there are three new civilisations, not four.

But I’ve argued with @FloosWorld about this before, and I don’t think there’s any point trying to reason with them about this. The most plausible explanation I can find for their behaviour is trolling, especially when they say ridiculous things like this:

It’s disappointing that a moderator would also be a troll, but it does seem to be what’s happening here. Best to ignore them and move on.

Wow, that’s actually the first time being called a troll and I’m honestly not sure whether I should feel honored or insulted by that. O.o

I can assure you, I’m not trolling. Instead, I’m just presenting my own subjective opinion, based on my background as someone who primarily plays MP. You are of course free to find this ridiculous.

I thus usually care less about historical accuracy (not that AoE 2 was an historical accurate game to begin with..) but rather whether something is fun to play.

And we all know when WE teases their DLCs and says things like “split”, they are also exclusively talking to MP players and never try to hype any other players.

I bet fifty cents this will be intentionally ignored.

I know. I was giving an extreme imaginary case where the devs release both Indians and Hindustanis. And by Floo’s standard, it would NOT be an Indians split.

Man… what a great time that was. That was also when pathing was not a topic.

Disappointing indeed, I think and hope he is not intentionally trolling. That said, have you ever seen any moderator criticizing devs, instead of defending them?

While they should be catering to both audiences, I’m willing to bet that the main voices they hear are those multiplayer voices because most of the people they go to for feedback are pro players and content creators, therefore most of the thoughts and concerns they hear are from that perspective. They should put some more effort in to get thoughts and opinions from the more historical accuracy focused side of the playerbase, but given that they don’t I can see why they maybe don’t get that its a big deal.

Pro players are unlikely to suggest what new civs to add. How many of them do you think cares about history? As for content creators, I don’t see any ones that focus on history and are influential enough for devs to care about their opinion. Robby and AdmiralWololo have potential someday, but not yet.

That’s my point, they aren’t suggesting, the devs run their ideas by them though, and its unlikely the pros will have much focus on the historical authenticity of the civ being added, they’re just going to focus on the gameplay mechanics in their feedback.

I would also say Ornlu is the best bet for a content creator who cares about the historical side and has influence, but in the past the devs just got annoyed with him when he spoke negatively on a DLC, so…you know.

They so said campaign or sp players are the majority and the 3K DLC seems to aim at sp more. So I don’t know what their take is.

I think both caring too much about the historical side and totally ignoring it are wrong in their own way.

History should absolutely be taken into account. But it’s also fine to sacrifice some historical accuracy for better gameplay and balance.

A lot. Like “I also dislike this decision the devs did, and I also criticized some other decision too five years ago, BUT

In the case of “East Asian DLC”, we are in a situation where they could sacrifice minimal historical accuracy to achieve better gameplay. Yet they sacrificed it all.

Yes. Especially with AoE 4. Or the wasted potential of Return of Rome. Or things like Georgians having “Svan Towers” as one of the UTs and Svan Towers also exist as scenario editor objects, yet they use regular towers.

Or in my case the decision to put any development for AoE 3 on hold for the unforseeable future.

For SP focused content though they don’t have go-to people (with NDAs agreed to) that they can run stuff by so they just go off what they think the SP community wants as a guess…and their track record on guesses isn’t great recently.

They probably still ran the 3k stuff by pros for balance feedback, but as for the content itself, I Think it was just their guess on what we would want/what would sell well. And they failed spectacularly.

When I say they don’t have someone to run stuff by, they could look at the forums, but I don’t know if they just view us as a small sliver that isn’t representative of the wider fanbase, or if they are more focused on expanding the fanbase even if they alienate long-timers, I dunno what goes through their heads on that front…

Sure you aren’t. Somehow someway you read all of this, me explaining at the time that we had no information, and you claimed and doubled down to have had believed this wasn’t a split, I explicitly draw attention that we atually had no information to go off of, I concluded that you just agree with whatever Cysion says, and somehow…somehow, twist this around to me saying I thought you gotten some info ahead of the reveal.

Also my original post.

you NOW claim to have just gotten your dates wrong. Please, what about this would make you think the point was “1 month after V&V2 was released everybody agreed what a split was, but 2 months after V&V2 released NOOOOOOOW, there’s some confusion”?

Everybody was good with split until some arbitrary time after V&V2 was announced? What? Even if you truly didn’t know when V&V2 was announced that is the most bizarre thing to believe this was trying to say. What even is the point in that statement interpreted as such? That gave you zero pause to re-evaluate your understanding of the statement in question.

Again you have to present this as you mis-understood what was being talked about.

Defending V&V2 is the communications equivalent of man having a cold. Not with a 1000 years of communications training can you begin appreciate the difficulty of understanding and communicating. there’s mis-speaking, while mis-speaking, while mis-understanding, while mis-communicating, while speaking to Miss Speaking and Miss Understanding, while making a mistake about what you mis-spoke about, while you realizing you mis-spoke about something else, while your bike is missing spokes, and all this takes so much time you miss steak dinner.

I mean, as said, as a mod you don’t get get any info on upcoming content far in advance. I didn’t knew either about the inclusion of 3K until the moment I took part in the Creator Preview, just like anyone else who took part in the creator preview for TTK.
The only creator who assumed that we’ll get 3K before anything was announced was Ornlu iirc.

I don’t claim that, I indeed got my dates wrong, because I don’t spend 24/7 of my time on this forum or watching AoE-related content but also do other stuff, so it’s only natural that you can get dates confused.

And to be honest with you, whenever a new DLC comes up, I mostly try to hold myself back on this forum with my opinion (which doesn’t always work as this thread shows) and only react to whenever posts have been flagged because I find the official forum really tiresome and exhausting to read.

And even though there are very good and valid points for the DLCs since RoR which I also partly share, right now with 3K, it just feels to me as if people have been getting more and more fired up about the topic for months and are only venting.
