Problems with South American Maps

What a wonderful map! It would be awesome to add a new map called Valley of the Moon, featuring fossil deposits that grant experience when mined, helping to compensate for the lack of Trading Posts. Ischigualasto Provincial Park - Wikipedia

It would be amazing if every minor native civilization in South America (except the Zapotecs, Mayans, and Jesuits) were represented on the map, reflecting how the Incas had constant contact and established relations with many cultures across the continent. There could also be a trade route with capturable Tambos, similar to the Silk Road map.

Perfect for the Iguazu Falls!

What about calling it Anahuac?

Yes, something like the Tupi wonder in some AoE 3 map like Pampas Sierras…

Tupi_Wonder_sprite_AoE2DE

Out of all places why Pampas Sierras?

I think he means the biome and not the map itself, but I still don’t understand why specifically that.

I mentioned it a few times, but I’d rename the current Amazonia map to Manaus.

Because currently the Iguazu Falls would be in Pampas Sierras…:man_shrugging:

Yes, with that map you have enough space for about 25 to 50 maps of South America…

Does anyone have ideas for good flora and fauna that could fit in South America? It would be great to see some penguins and seals in the Araucanía and Patagonia maps, along with some treasures guarded by orcas.

Pampas Sierras is misplaced compared to real life though:

This is where it should be:

And this is where Iguazu would be:

I mean more than seals I’d say they should have Sea Lions. (Similar but very distinct families).

Can’t think of many more animals that’d fit in Araucania but don’t exist already. Like sure you could have Pudu, but I don’t think dog-sized deers would make for good huntables.

More than Orcas I’d say white whales would be cool if you want some flavor in your treasure guardians.

Now the Chaco and the Amazon could use a lot more variety, Giant Anteater, Guará Guazú, peccari, etc.

I’d split the territory currently covered by Amazonia on the loading screen into at least five maps.
There could be Pará and Marajó like miller/Lil’ Thumb already suggested, Manaus (which as I said would be the current map but renamed), Roraima and maybe Acre (or whatever was the name before Brazil annexed it) and I guess Rondônia?

Also I don’t have a good suggestion for an alternative, but I think Cerrado is in a weird position here (though the circled area IS considered part of Cerrado)

Also, Minas Gerais includes grey wolves, which don’t exist south of Mexico, as can be seen in this official screenshot:

They’re not as violent, but for variety I’d replace them with maned wolves (also known as Aguará Guazú, or as Lobo Guará in Portuguese):

They could potentially show up in Gran Chaco and Pampas Sierras too, out of the current maps, but should be left out of Amazonia.

Yes, the moors. It would cover a large territory in northern South America (Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador). It could have rabbits, foxes, spectacled bears, and the native Muisca people as a minor faction.

Oh, yes, sea lions would fit much better on both the Araucanía and Patagonia maps

Some environmental cliffs with condors would be fine, I think, and the huemul could be added to the current map as well.

I think either would be fine. I like the orcas idea because spotting them near the shore is a common activity in the Patagonia.

Adding some common trees like Lapacho and Jacarandá could also bring more life to the maps, and they could appear on many of them, such as Gran Chaco, Minas Gerais, Pampas Sierra, Andes, and Pampa.

I’d love to see Yellow Ipê (and Ipê trees in general) in more games.

I think Lapacho might be the same tree that is known as Pink Ipê in Brazil.

Yes, they’re the same. Here in northwestern Argentina, we call them Lapacho, and they can be pink, yellow, or even white.

Oh well yes, that’s true, but that’s what’s currently in the game…

I have a somewhat old thread talking about this aspect of the game:

Very good post! It’s a little sad to see how most South American maps don’t have the same level of detail as the North American ones. I mean, even the African ones at least have African animals in their treasures, like meerkats, while in South America we have… beavers and otters. And not even the South American otters…the ones big enough to be guardians, mind you.
