It is on some server. I had a workaround for a while where you could block the text moderation server with your hosts file, but that no longer works.
Very small improvement. Should have been removed completely and unequivocally with an apology from the developers to the community.
Hmm, I just saw this in Steam preferences. I wonder if it has any ties to AoE2:DE chat filtration? I haven’t personally seen anyone mention this possibility before…
Hmm… Interesting. I’ve never seen this. Thanks for pointing this out. Why did the Age Of Empires series start supporting this crap all of a sudden?
Update: Just tried disabling it here… no effect.
Oh, no… darn. I was really hoping it was the key to ice-cold, unfiltered, genuine, beechwood-aged chat
Thanks for testing it out!
No problem, mate. Let us keep criticizing the developers until they remove it and give us an unequivocal apology for this childish non-sense. I’ve not even bought the latest expansion pack just to prove a point to these guys. If there was no need for a word filter for 20+ years (when many of us actually were kids) but there’s one now when we’re almost 30, we need to let the developers know their core audience is pissed off.
No, it shouldn’t be optional. There shouldn’t be any censoring for anything in the first place. I’m not gonna make a compromise. I paid for a game, and I want to have fun with it. I can’t have fun when the game censors anything, even the n word, because I’m gonna use it for memes sometimes. Or okay, even if it is optional, there should be an option to censor nothing. I’m not gonna be happy if there is some stuff the game will always censor. Like why do they want to appeal to a younger audience anyway?? It makes no ■■■■■■■ sense. Stupid little kids can’t even understand what they’re doing in the game. They aren’t able to be as strategically good as older people are. Keep the little kids away from our games, they’re ruining everything.
I like this. If i play with friends I also like to talk “BM”, because they know I mean it ironically.
The prob is maybe matchmaking, because you can only be matched with people also deactivating the filter?
Profanity filter is definitely one of the worse things implemented in the game. Not because it is bad to filter out rude language, but because of the TERRIBLE LAG it has when you text someone. This is very stressfull when you need to coordinate with your teammates. Yes, it should be optional if not fully removed from the game.
Yeah, the lag is painful. I know it’s only milliseconds delay, but it feels weird to not have 100% real-time input like AoE2:HD (2013) and prior games had… as well as practically every other messaging service nowadays
Sorry to bump this topic but we must get this to 100!
It is done, we made it!
Indeed, now this is the most liked thread on this forum.
I know these algorithms are never going to be perfect, but it has censored innocuous comments. In rare cases have I realized a potential alternate meaning.
All algorithms like that are either mediocre or plain bad.
There should be a manually created and updated database of censored words that are truly heinous.
Censoring based on systems like that is just extremely lazy and cheap and drags down enjoyment from the game and infringes practical freedom of expression where you have to redact and change normal words, phrases, whole sentences because of its presence.
It’s just a bad solution to a very non-critical issue.
What are the top#5 issues for MP players? If I had to say:
- game balance
- polish of the netcode
- sufficient array of options meant for customization of matches, reviewing replays etc.
- working report system
- active and dedicated developers that keep MP scene alive, dynamic and fun with events, new content, frequent patches and tinkering with mechanics.
Somebody spamming some bad words that are not easily censored or don’t exist in their database atm? Just mute the guy or report him. I’m sure chat logs are accessible to Devs to review it.
Censorship done that way is just bad and has to go.
US is not the only, nor the first country to introduce the concept of “freedom of speech”. And it is a much broather term you think it is. Honestly your comment is more distracting than helpfull regarding this topic.
Agree, it censors words that are not even insults. I wanted to say to a hispanic dude that someone gifted me the dlc. I said my civ was “regalada” meaning “gifted” and the game censored me for no ■■■■■■■ reason whatsoever. The game thought I was meaning that the match was an easy win and I was being toxic? This censor bot is a ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■.
The silly bot censors even colors.
Like the other day I said something like “yellow town is almost destroyed” and it was heavily censored.
It’s beyond useless this type of censorship.
Same thing happens in Portuguese, some time ago i was playing with a friend and there was something wrong with Discord so he couldn’t hear me, and i wrote stuff in chat in portuguese to let him know what was up and all i got was #### ####### ############### #### o.O i wrote a bit so i have no idea which word triggered the censor, but i don’t curse so it was a mistake by the censor.
