Profanity Filter -> Optional

This topic has been discussed quite a bit here before. One workaround you can try is to log out of XBox Live, if you’re a Steam player. That might help a bit until devs have a chance to hopefully fix it or remove it. Here’s one thread of probably at least a few…

Yeah, i agree with this guy you coted, or just add a mute button somewhere

Pretty sure you can mute players already, even, if you want.

If you have Steam, log out of XBox Live.
The Steam one is better.

Yes, you already have that option.

Making profanity filter a host option is the best thing devs can do.

I can’t, I don’t play through steam. I think the fact the devs haven’t said or done anything is the most infuriating thing.
The people here have literally been supporting them for years and the absurd silence on this feels like specially hurtful. It is ruining my favorite game.

They did, but it’s no too public

Could you point me to where? It’s been close to two months and still no fix. I just want to be able to have a conversation.

TEXT FILTERING: We’ve heard your cries and seen the ***** **** ** ******; and the team is investigating solutions that not only (more accurately) reflect the communication style of the community, but give us more control over where we set the bar both now and into the future. Watch for more updates to come!

That was in the March update over 2 weeks ago. Perhaps the devs think it’s acceptable to leave it even longer, despite the fact this has been a problem for months.
As you said, the worst part is the silence. Other than a message saying it’s being “investigated” they’ve said nothing and done nothing.
Why can’t the devs just be transparent with the community and give us a proper response and solution?

This is why they can’t do much about it. However, would be nice that they would put this up in the headlines. However, on the other hand I understand why not, this would make people NOT to buy it on their MS Store and dam is that a bad thing to MS, so the best the community can do is spread the word itself and tell people to sign out of xbox live and recommend people buy the game through steam to people who are thinking of buying the game. The Xbox Live team or whoever/whatever it is who work on that side, should make haste and add the option to moderate your censorship settings on the PC too, not only on Xbox console.

You might think I’m trolling. But I actually don’t remember where it was.

I remember a member here posted a chat between him and a dev. But I don’t remember where and who

@Psychcaptain I’ve seen you have been one of the only people arguing for the profanity filter so I have a few questions for you.

  1. The game is listed as Pegi 12 for violence and bad language. Do you not think this is adequate warning for people who have young children?

  2. If I see my opponent after a game say **** *** ******* * **** ***** how am I supposed to know if he is insulting me, calling me slurs etc etc. or if he is saying something along the lines of “good game you played well”?

  3. Why are you insistent that the filter be forced on everyone, not just making it optional?

This is another area to where the communication from the community manager could be ramped-up. Unless I understand incorrectly, this is a paid position. If it was an intern position, I could easily understand the lack of communication.

Interestingly enough, this filter was force-implemented. Could not the same be done to remove the implementation for the time being?

I purchased the game without the filter. That was a set expectation. They have now removed that expectation and the game is below average experience for me. Why are they making changes to a game that haven’t been discussed nor mentioned before or even after the purchase?

This seems to be taking advantage of a consumer/gamer. However, I assume, most people will vote with their feet and move on to better gaming experiences.

Actually before (months ago at this point) I knew that there was a problem with the filter, I had played a ranked game with someone, and at the end they said something which was all just *'d out. My first thought actually was that maybe they were being insulting or something. That was until the filter really ramped up starring out 1’s and I’s and ai’s resign dialogue and everything.

And those lovely skeletons. Dammit MS.

tbf, they always mix the same context topics.

My suggestion to the devs is to:

-Remove the profanity filter and add a feature to report rudeness with being able to share chat history of the game.
OR

-Make it a host option

They already added a report function. Therefore the censor is counter-productive: I can’t see if someone is insulting me or if they’re trying to chat, meaning I’m unable to report people who deserve it.

After the latest patch, the censor has been improved, but “Cumans” and “Black Forest” are now censored. We could go through each of the words case by case, but that would take a long time to be fixed, and some more obscure ones would be overlooked. Instead - you, the developers, need to make the filter optional, let me explain why:

  1. A bot can never tell the intent behind a message. For example, it censors “douche” which is a popular ‘meme’ strategy. Someone may have been saying “i go douche” or they may have been using it to insult someone, however:

  2. A censor is counter-productive. Even if someone is being insulting it should not be censored. There is now a report function so what is the point if all I see is * ** ****** ? There’s no way for me to know if they are being racist and need to be reported or if they’re trying to communicate.

  3. This is meant to be the Definitive Edition not Censored Edition. People didn’t pay for the censor, nor did they request it. DE should be uniting the AoE2 community in one game so there’s no need for people to go back to Voobly or HD. We lasted without a censor for 20 years, why add it now?

Just a simple toggle fixes the issue, and an apology from the developers who have forced an unrequested, unwanted and unhelpful “feature” upon the community for nearly 3 months. Please, treat the community with more respect, and don’t ignore us for months on end.

I believe they are forced to do this. I don’t think FE would add such a feature without a trouble coming their way.

No need for that, just make it optional…

Well isnt the toggle to sign or not to sign on xbox live? at least it works for me (didnt play this new patch still)

How hard can it be? I never asked for this filter in the first place.
