What if there were Jurchen, Khitan, Tangut, Chinese and Korean campaigns in development but got scrapped in favor of 3 Kingdoms?
This is making me very upset.

As I said when I started looking into the filesâŠnow I have a machine gun.
With PLEASURE!
That is almost certainly what it was. Especially given we have:
So if Iâm understanding correctly, what probably happened wasâŠ
1- They start making a normal, East Asia DLC
2- Excecs butt in, tell devs to make Chronicles because it did well, and to make it Three Kingdoms because itâs an extremely popular setting and related to what they were developing anyway.
3- Devs are rushed, scrap assets and ideas, mash things together. Then, they are told to actually not make it into a Chronicle DLC but add it to the base game, consistency be damned.
I might be wrong but still, I think we need a summary that is easy to digest because everything is kinda all over the place.
Itâs such a shame that the devs havenât made any statement.
It really feels like theyâre ignoring the communityâs feedback â even though they always claim theyâre listening to us.
To be honest, the devs responding would make things worse in this case as people already came with their theories and wouldnât accept any official statement.
I think the only point the last couple of years where the devs actually responded was with the initial namings of AoE 4âs variant civs when Zu Xhiâs Legacy and Ayyubids were still called Jade Empire and Sultanâs Army.
It takes more balls to put your hands up and go âwe messed upâ than to stick your head in the sand. And people do respect that if words are followed by actions.
Ignoring this will only make things worse in the long run.
Honestly, the precedent is there for a rename based on feedback, because as you said it was a pretty clear moment of reacting to a DLC announcement getting poor reception.
I can only hope they will actually say something. But this whole thing reminds me a lot of Sultans Ascend mostly becasue thereâs three major camps: Those who want the civs cut (which i find unreasonable), those who dont care and are focused in pvp (for whom this whole thing makes no difference and are just mad the community is mad) and people who want a rename (which is the best solution at this point i think).
Knowing now of what could have been, this makes me sad.
But since there most likely was a plan, I hope it can still come.
Man Reddit really likes to just be a bunch of shills huh
The same thing happened with AoE4 before. Reddit was full of posts complaining, and people who are like ââI dont care and so nobody should careââ completely dismissing the complaints.
They only care about ranked. More civs on ranked/shake up meta is all they want and nothing more.
To be fair, that is a very understandable demand. The Meta WAS extremely stale and the patch and DLC help a lot with that.
I believe the renaming method is the best solution mostly becasue it wouldnt harm anyoneâs enjoyment in any game mod.
Reddit is usually the simpest place and the last one to riot, yet the simps still call reddit an echo chamber of negativityâŠ
âItâs not simp-y enough for me yetâ
âYes, I want a civ slot dedicated to representing two Han Chinese guysâ
At this point you could add a civ called âDave the plumber from Birminghamâ and Reddit would say âjust give it a chance. Have you played it yet? You need to support the devs you knowâŠâ
You should be hyped to hear that we are getting the the English civil War DLC featuring such great civilizations like the Ulster Scots and the Commonwealth, or even the fan-favourite Diggers
Im going to work in my Yugoslav civil War DLC concept next if you dont mind
Heres the diaorama for the steam page
Donât forget the cherry on top: the Britons and Celts are still there.
Rename to? Itâs spoilt.
Why wouldbt they be there? Its not like they are dividing them, they are just diferent civs
