Aztec is notorious of being strong at age 2 and 3 and steadily decline in age 4 and 5. They don’t have basic arsenal or church tech, Knight unit not having Elite upgrades 25% combat value, and their specific unit buff card cost 500 or 1500 coin to send. This combined with their knight card already take 8/10 card slot in age 3, making them less flexible like Japan in choosing age 3 card.

Aztec Big Button tech is also situational when to get, what it does currently is sending unit based on elapsed game time with a max at 30m to get 15 unit mostly. The biggest advantage of the Aztec Big Button tech is to bypass the 200 pop limit, where player can do a 1 time push of 300 pop unit worth, when that push fail, Aztec late game plan is 100 ERK spam till anyone quit. I propose the following change for their Big Button in a way similar to other Native factions:

Reworking Big Button that send unit based on elapsed time.
Current effect: 1 unit every 2 minutes, max give 15 unit after 30m (1 unit every 4 minutes, max give 7 unit after 30m for Skull Knight)
Proposed effect: 1 unit every 3 minutes, max give 10 unit after 30m (4 unit every 15 minutes, max give 8 unit after 30m for Skull Knight), tech also give secondary benefits.
My reason: It gonna reduce the Aztec doom push power, but also give them a lasting effect to compensate. -
Founder (I)
Cost: 100F 100W 100C
Building: Community Plaza
Current Effect: Increase Warchief XP bounty aura from double to triple value
Proposed Effect: also increase unit LOS by 2, and increase the build limit of Eagle Scout to 10 from 5.
My reason: Basically, it made Aztec also got the benefit of Town Watch church tech, this will most likely help Coyote Runner from running blindly toward Musketeer. -
Coatlicue Worship (II)
Cost: 500C
Building: House
Current Effect: give 15 Otontin Slinger after 30 minutes
Proposed Effect: move the tech to age 3 and also give Otontin x1 multiplier against Heavy Infantry
My reason: this way Aztec also got the effect similar with CIR, just like Chinese Chu Ko Nu and Indian also got similar effect through card. -
Barometz (II)
Cost: 750C
Building: War Huts
Current Effect: give 15 Puma Spearman after 30 minutes
Proposed Effect: move the tech to age 3 and also give Puma 20% ranged resist
My reason: Puma is weird unit for Aztec currently, in age 2 they are better than most pikeman, but in age 3 their role is taken by JPK. Giving them ranged armor will increase their survival against Skirmisher like Javanese Spearman and Dragoon does not destroy them as easily like before, besides their base HP and melee armor is already low to start with. -
Cinteotl Worship (III)
Cost: 600F 500W
Building: Farm
Current Effect: give 15 Eagle Runner Knight after 30 minutes
Proposed Effect: +10% all resource gather rate, killed villager become Eagle Scout
My reason: Cinteotl is Aztec god of Maize, so I think an Economic Theory bonus is suitable for this expensive tech. There is this card for Mexican revolting to Central America that turns dead Settler into a Revolutionary, and I think it will be interesting for Aztec to have similar effects. -
War Song (III)
Cost: 500F 400W
Building: Noble’s Hut
Current Effect: give 15 Arrow Knight after 30 minutes
Proposed Effect: give non-Shock Infantry +5% speed, additionally -20% Knight training time
My reason: I want to put the effect of Military Drum and Standing Army tech in one just like Spanish Liberation March card. The reduction to Knight training time does not include Skull Knight, since I want Noble’s Hut unit training less reliant on the faster birth community ceremony. -
Tezcatlipoca Worship (III)
Cost: 900C
Building: Estate
Current Effect: give 7 Skull Knight after 30 minutes
Proposed Effect: move the tech to age 4, also made Noble Hut to spawn 1 Skull Knight every 75s, War Hut spawn 1 pet Jaguar every 50s
My reason: Both Skull Knight and Pet Jaguar are two rarest unit in Aztec. Skull Knight once dead is harder to replace, and must sacrificing other community ceremony to do so, while Pet Jaguar require niche card to send and Warchief to be idle to train. I want them to be more easily replaceable in a way like Chinese Summer Palace or Japanese Dojo. Will require big investment to fully receive the benefit effects. -
Cipactli Worship (III)
Cost: 2000F
Building: Dock
Current Effect: give 4 Tlaloc Canoe, and give warship 10% combat bonus
Proposed Effect: reduce the food cost to 1500F
My reason: I don’t know when Devs add the 10% combat bonus as it does not exist in vanilla, but it is a welcome addition and prompt me to create this whole suggestion. The price is too high for what it does currently. -
Aztec Scouting/Raiding/War Party (II/III/III)
Cost: 400F (Scout), 400F 400C (Raiding), 400F 400W 400C (War)
Building: Town Center
Current Effect: give Jaguar Prowl Knight, 4 for Scout, 8 for Raiding, 12 for War.
Proposed Effect: The final version (War Party) also add the benefits of 10% Infantry Combat
My reason: Main benefits for this effect is War Hut unit and allied Native Warrior, the universal combat bonus has similar value with the Advance Arsenal tech.
