Public Update Preview - June Update - 100.18.31850.0

FinallyFixed a bug where units sometimes would not send target died events. When this “target died” event was not sent, it could lead to units becoming idle instead of retargeting as expected.

HotkeysPlease we need an option to make it possible to use the classic AOM hotkeys. They were the best hotkeys of all.

I agree that people should have the option of that if they want it. But it’s absurd to say it’s “the best hotkeys of all”. The grid hotkeys that all Age games have used since the very first Definitive Edition are amazing. They’re incredibly intuitive and easy to learn, and allow easy access to the commands you’re using most often.

  • Buildings are more resistant to hack damage with higher increases for some defensive buildings, such as Towers and Fortresses.

  • Defensive buildings, including Towers and Fortresses, now deal more damage to help players defend their bases.

Niiiiice. This is sorely needed!

Fixed cases where units could be produced from some angles on production buildings and end up stuck inside pockets in the treeline.

That’s really interesting. How effective will it be, in practice? I wonder if a fix like this might also be made to aoe2?

Sentry Tower: adjusted as follows

    • Damage increased from 5 → 8 pierce.

This, plus the fortress-type building 50% damage boost, seem interesting. I’m sceptical that it’s going to be enough of a damage boost to overcome the problem Magic noted in this video, but it’s a start. Fighting under a fortress with equal total resources should be a fairly overwhelming victory, IMO; maybe equivalent to if you had, like, 25%–33% more resources in a units-only fight.

Halo of the sun (Helios): adjusted as follows

  • No longer affects Fire Ship range and damage.
  • Now also increases Arcus range by +1.

I would love to see a dev note explaining this one. I think I like the change, I just want to know why.

  • Villager train times have been increased; this should make the window of opportunity larger for the now increased in power booming strategies, due to the stronger buildings.
Hardpass on this one. The villager train time was on the sweet spot in Retold in my opinion. It was kind of fast paced, but it also allowed those spectacular myhtic age battles as well. I was even thinking reducing it slightly, like maybe 14 or 13.5 seconds.
BTW free sentry tower upgrade was part of Egyptians identity. I would rather see their towers lose damage rather than the free upfrage being removed.
The Odin nerfs are deserved though.

I hate strong buildings, its why I quit AOE2, I don’t like fighting against buildings (especially offensive castle drops). I like fighting against units, not buildings. Having to deal with offensive castle drops on resources and home bases and offensive castles in general (and don’t think for a second they won’t be used offensively or place d on every gold mine near your starting tc) would be the worst thing I can think of happening to this game. Rush to Heroic, put midgols on all gold mines near opponents starting TC, build long range siege/long range units to snipe units from protection of the castle, type gg. Not looking forward to this meta.

Its bad enough they made most of the maps completely lack food or other resources such that now I have to rush to heroic age (to be able to get a migdol/fortress/etc. to garrison villagers in during the inevitable raids) without making too many units or else I’ll have no food or gold.

It’s a bit disappointing that this issue is still unresolved after several months. I hope the team can take a look at it soon. : Green boxes on screen - #12 by RKGStephen

The hotkeys of AOM Extended Edition are literally the hotkeys of AOM The Titans… And yes, the well-designed, thoughtful, and intuitive hotkeys of the classic AOM are infinitely better than the ‘QWERTYASDFG’ hotkeys of the current AOM Retold.

All we need, more buff for Arcus :sad_but_relieved_face:

Seriously? Meanwhile, the problem that seriously affects PS5 users still has no solution. The error 0001.0001.ffffffff has been going on for almost 3 months without any solution. The most sensible thing to do would be to refund the affected users and remove this game from the PSN store until all the problems that affect the correct functioning of the game are fixed.

Genuine questions, how widespread is this error on the PS5 players? Have been able to play with quite a few that have had no such issue, is it just luck? I know the error is a thing, just curious as to how common it is.

100% agreed. Buildings are fine as they are now IMHO.

Never understood the fixation of AoM community on asking to buff buildings since the game released. Only people who don’t play RTS at a reasonable level would ask such a thing. Metas with strong offensive buildings are incredibly obnoxious to play against.

Devs are tweaking the entire balance, even messing with economy, to accommodate fo the building buff. The chances of going on the wrong direction are huge.

All we will get are boring stalemates with those changes.

Too many buffs all at once imo.
I think the building damage increase was needed, but not durability (at least not by much). One should use their army to protect buildings while they provide free dps.

Also the fort change is kinda wierd- they were nerfed to prevent droping 2 forts on gold on heroic age and sitting comfortably protected behind them.
I think they should keep fort pretty much as is, and add the mythic age upgrade so they do scale better to lategame, but arent that stronger on heroic.

I’m not aure how I feep about villigers train time, unless you start with more villigers it will just greatly slow the game.

It will encourage raids and make the game take longer. Basically, these two things.

Norses were already builders, maybe we can expecte them to be more.

Yes, i understand the logic of making recovering from raids harder, moving the game to skirmishes rather than one big fight.
But without starting with more villigers the start is ganna be slower as well- age up to classic is ganna be about a minute later.

It’s a fundamental RTS conceit, that defensive play (“turtling”) should be able to outplay aggressive strategies (rushes). Right now, because of how ineffective buildings are defensively, that basic tenet does not hold in Myth. The fact that if you spend 2000 resources on units, and I spend 600 resources (plus favour) on a Fortress and 1400 on units, you win even when fighting under my Fortress is absurd.

I agree with you that using buildings offensively should not be an effective or desirable strategy. Luckily, Myth helps avoid that issue (relative to AoE2) because of how paper-thin all buildings are before their completed. That, plus keeping siege units strong against completed defensive structures, should help avoid cheesy forward fortress strategies being too strong.

Yeah, it’s going to be insufferable especially if you main Atty. it’s already a slow archaic

I believe this error is related to the synchronization between the PSN and Microsoft accounts. I pre-ordered this game and have been playing it every day since its release. On May 2nd, I was no longer able to play online, and I started receiving the error 0001.0001.ffffffff notification. I did a quick search here on the Forum and have already identified other people with this problem, some of whom have been having this problem since March. It’s been 3 months, a very long time to fix a problem that affects the user experience.

I tried to unsync my PSN account with Microsoft, but Microsoft support is terrible and they said it would no longer be possible to unsync accounts. I think this is complete nonsense. It’s 2025 and things seem to be regressing.

On the contrary, with slower villager production you age up faster since you spend less food and bank up more.

This is only true from archaic to classic, where the villager difference hadent paid off still. After that yea, getting a second tc, heroic or anything else is gonna be slower.

You have a point, though aging up with less villigers while everything else cost and create at the same time might not be a good idea even if possible.

So it’s either a later classical or your classical economy suffers, resulting in later production of units and what not anyway.
But I guess we can never know for sure what will actually happen

That isn’t enough. People already are building fortresses on all the gold mines now even at their ‘weak’ strength. If they are so weak and bad, how come people love building them? How is Norse supposed to deal with mass forts, ballista? Not in their current state. Melee siege is too easy for any units to shank down under the protection of forts. Even now, people love building offensive forts and using petrobolos under their protection to blast down the enemy buildings. The odds of you ‘catching’ someone rushing up a castle with ten villagers in time to stop it are extremely remote, even in offensive positions.
