Puzzle time!

Really ?

What is the source ?

The new April PUP just released

So militia without Supplies are now viable?

Byzantines got their Greek fire changed. Not really related to Varangians.
Unless that was a Viking related hint.

Nothing here as far as I can see unless that was a very cryptic Steppe Lancer hint.

First Crusade got changed.

It’s now a team bonus.

Got one.

Exactly what I’ve said.

Yeah. Gambeson tech got added.

Didn’t expect that they changed such an iconic bonus but they did.
Now only +2 villagers but -150F instead of -200F.

Got one too.

And it got changed. Now makes them more resistant to mounted units. Interesting that the engine allows that. Couldn’t they make the Condoteri work like that too?

Goth hunting bonus change hint?

Steppe Lancer buff?

Probably is a campaign change hint.

Would be a cryptic Spanish balance change hint so maybe it’s also campaign related.

No changes here unless it’s maybe campaign related?

Paper Money doesn’t cost Gold anymore.

Vikings got both their UT changed.

I don’t see any change here either.

Gambeson hint I guess.

Castles now heal nearby Infantry.

Pikeman upgrade is cheaper now.

It’s a new Tech that adds 0/+1 to the Militia Line.
Strange that they didn’t change any unique Infantry units.

Not that big of a change considering that Malians get +1/+2/+3 Pierce armour for free.

So I was randomly right.
Also I guessed militia line is getting +1PA in a different thread.

How connected was this Crossword puzzle to the new patch?

Gambeson is an upgrade to Supplies

Very much connected.

18/21 are related.

I saw this title and readed it as “Pizza time!”

maybe I watched too much Raimi memes.

Hello, I know could be too much work, but it would be really nice and usefull share in short words which is the intention with each balance change.
Some are more.clear, but others are confusing… and peolple start to speculate or misunderstand the devs’ intention like a kind of holy scripts interpretation 11

Glad I’m not the only one thinking this hahaha!

Crosswords but all words are “pizza”.

Yeah, that was the gist of a couple of my posts. Given that every civ and ~18 Unique Techs were impacted by the changes, you’re going to be right by default if you guess some kind of vague buff or change to half the words that appeared on the crossword.

That said, I am leaning more into seeing significance in some of these, but sometimes it’s the clue more than the answer. E.G. “Iron boar” is meaningless AFAWK, but the clue mentions “Goth Hunters,” which were buffed. “Nomads” remains unchanged despite predictions, yet the “Steppe Lancers” in the clue were buffed. But even accounting for some lucky guessing and a couple retrospectively obvious things the devs wanted to call attention to (Viking Age, Champion Warfare, Goedendag) more than 1/3 the of the answers themselves remain without any apparent meaning. So there’s some obvious intentionality about some of the words, but I maintain my previous agnosticism about every term being deeply meaningful.

This one’s a bit of a stretch. Elite Steppe Lancers were buffed, but IMO that benefits Mongols more than Tatars. Mongols and Cumans didn’t get any kind of nerf, but Tatars got a small one with increased TT for Keshiks. Some of the other guesses were pretty on target though, especially for techs.

Regardless, we have the actual PUP now, which thankfully puts an end to the speculation. If campaign changes or something confirm extra meaning for some of the other clues, so be it, but I expect some things are just fillers.

You mistake it. The question refers to the patch, i.e. villagers killing trees with one hit, just like sappers villagers.

Nothing to do with the patch. (-If you meant puzzle, I agree, and that was my point). Just refuting the guess that Tatars needed to be singled out for (or got) any notable buff that’s distinct from the dozens of other changes in the patch.

Nomad start has been changed for many civs (Persians, Malians, Spanish, Bulg, etc)

Wasn’t sure if this was a bug for civs other than Spanish, but I guess its intentional. Some of those changes seem unnecessary, but I guess it’s at least good that they all follow the same principle.
