Is there a way to play a Marathon game that could last indefinitely? Something a long the lines of this Civ 2 game that has been ongoing for over 10 years??

Or is this what Campaign mode is about… its been a very long time since I played last so I am very curious as length of gameplay that is possible?

No. The game have limited resources. Is impossible do that.
