Radio silence or statement from the Devs about the controversy?

Sometimes I feel they can be good and bring some variety. You can think up specific strategies to approach the problem of being on a timer, otherwise I’d put 3 castles on my base, boom and attack with a post-imp army in every scenario. Which is fine by me mind you. But I also think that in most scenarios where you get to boom freely, attacking the enemy early is almost impossible and so those with a timer can give you that opportunity.

I meant the achievement was a pain xd. But I did manage to get it when RNG favoured me and the Greeks attacked the town I had sent my soldiers to.

I’m not a fan of naval battles either in… Any videogame. But I was disappointed that the Athenian act gave you an OP fleet and the cutscenes mentioned multiple times how strong the Athenian navy was, and how Sparta couldn’t compete on sea. And then you ambush them once and their entire fleet is gone. That’s why I’d have preferred a proper fight, for narrative purposes.

That is also why I’d like to have a scenario about Plataea. The narrator says the Persians have a massive army, but we just kill the fleet and the Persian army just vanishes I guess?

I agree, but let me give you an example from ROR - Pyrrhus mission 1 - not even a good mission, but the principe is there.

You have a timer at the beginning…if you fail it, you don’t get extra resources, and neither do your allies…and that’s it. Your enemy has FINITE resources, but they last much longer. Your enemy is 1 age up and you are unable to advance to that age. Your enemy has much higher population space and better technology cap.

So you can actually take the initiative and raid your most powerful enemy quickly - kill their villagers and they are done, and then the rest of the scenario is just a breeze. Or you can simply focus on your defenses and destroy the orange opponent’s stables to start the defensive part of the mission, which is kinda hard, too.

So instead of a hard timer, give your faction limited resources, give your enemy longer lasting resources in abundance, and higher technology and population cap - but make them weaker at the start and susceptible to raids. The sooner you attack, the easier it is for your, and the logner you wait, the harder it gets. That is a difficult build and destroy scenario with soft timer done properly…instead of “you have 20 minutes to get here or you lose”.

Is that post or pre nerf? Because I played it when it came out and the post-imp centurions with a billion damage and armor and thrice my population cap made it impossible to attack the enemy base with my crappy units.

I managed to do it pre nerf. Pyrrhus #1 How am I supposed to hold my own against post-Iron Age units in Bronze Age? - #19 by TrustfulMango90

Post nerf it’s outright easy.

Damn… that’s impressive. I wish I could try it but my game just crashes when I click the Rome sub-game. And also it’s been nerfed so not much of a point there xd.

Damn, outright crashes really suck. Maybe reinstalling will help, or in the worst case scenario, Geforce Now…anyway…I actually liked ROR campaigns and I’d be all in favor of a campaign for every single civ in there…but given the current state of the DLCs and their nature, I have long lost my hope for that. Besides, Aoe2 proper has an obvious priority…

Best selling DLC in AoE franchise history, better get used to see the 3K civs in ranked/tournaments from now on =(

Based on their past records of “best selling DLCs in franchise history”, their next DLC will be 2 new “civs” and one campaign, same price, called a great deal, and people will defend it more fiercely

There was no Battle of Plataea!! The Persian Wars story with no Plataea. Bad.

Yes, I mentioned that

Don’t accept it. Don’t give up. It’s probably the devs or dev-adjacents making those posts.

Far from best selling. The review numbers are kinda stagnating, and the ratings are still going down (53% now). It’s not even a top 30 or so in top sellers, but top 59.

And what’s more, the devs have started replying to negative reviews…that’s something at least. Maybe a wake up call?

This highlights the importance of cautioning people against being influenced by content creators who are just as financially motivated to create hype and not ruffle feathers.

Is this the first time devs are responding to negative feedback? interesting. I mean, sure, it’s a copy/paste response, but at least it’s something, I guess.

The problem is they’re getting too cute with these DLCs. Chronicles is fine, and I’m good with those continuing, but there’s no need to fix something that ain’t broke. Too many chefs in the kitchen. Too many suits that are out of touch with this franchise.

It also shows the fatal flaw of pre-ordering during misleading advertisement and otherwise radio silence from official sources.

It’s the same way they respond in mobile game reviews, it makes me uneasy. It is a response, but copypasta…

Ain’t that the truth… experimentation is ok in moderation, but 3 in a row, each getting successively worse, is not in any realm ok.

It’s the bare minimum (just barely), but still an improvement from radio silence

Oh, I know. I’m happy there’s starting to be a response. But man, it’s feeling like we’re being placated rather than engaged with. Maybe I’m just old fashioned.

I don’t know man.
The dev team kind of painted themselves into a corner even if there would be changes. The DLC was advertised explicitly saying all “civs” will be in ranked and multiplayer base game.

Unless they pull another deceptive-yet-not-technically-lying interpretation of the promise? I’m not ready to hold my breath yet.

There lies the problem. Chronicles were an experiment, and the reason we’ve received 3k, is because majority of people LIKED chronicles. I had no problem with devs pumping out a single experiment after a string of successful content that we had asked for (the first 3 DLCs) - such as RoR (experiment n1), and then getting back on track with Mountain Royals…but then we got V&V and then Chronicles..aka 2 experiments in a row…and if you like one, they will continue. This is the proof of that. I think that a chronicle for every 2-3 standard DLCs is fine…but the last “standard” stuff we received, was in 2023.
