It makes the ram very op at the early rush. If player who uses enough macro can pop out pop in 16 units and avoid being hit. Also it is unrealistical while the tower gets only 5 garrisonable man.
maybe instead of 16 it should be 12
Making it more than 8 makes it still op. By making it 12 ,If you got two ram it covers 24 units. You still have many soldiers covered for early rush. 8 is fair in my opinion.
Its still hard to tell if its OP tbh.
We will have to see within the coming weeks after launch.
I’ve watched alot of aoe 4 pro gameplay videos. Whoever uses ram push early, they win. Because archers can’t do damage the units inside and when the defender tries to snipe the ram all units pop out and kills the defender’s melee infantry. Ram basically gives you immunity of arrrows in early rush and 16 unit for this is alot.
It sounds like the general rush/disparity in unit numbers is what’s killing them though.
If the enemy was able to recruit 16 MAA per ram what does the defender have?
I will explain this in scenario. Imagine he is English player who spammed longbow and has 30 longbows and 5 spears. Enemy is HRE and doing MAA rush and got 1 ram 16 MAA. All MAA garrisoned and English players sees this and push his spears to the ram. But all MAA pop out and kill spears and pop into ram. Then continue to attack TC. 30 longbows means nothing in this case. Maybe killed few MAA when they popped out but still they have advantage being immunity inside ram.
What would have been if one ram had 8 garrisonable size. In this case 8 of those MAA would be outside already and while pushing forward they have been shooted by many arrows from longbows. From these words I don’t think you can realize the scenario but it matters alot.
So here’s what the battle simulator has to say about it:
30 Longbowmen take around 40 seconds to kill a ram with their ranged attacks, not the fastest tbf.
But also not the worst if that’s the only thing attacking you. (if the enemy ungarrisons the ram they you can just run your spearmen in)
If they are hitting the TC with the ram while your longbowmen fire, you end up with a fairly low TC (assuming you aren’t repairing it with villagers).
If they ungarrison all their units to fight you with the MAA, they also lose. (make sure to kite)
So on the whole the situation isn’t that bad honestly.
Villagers can help a lot in this situation as well by repairing things the ram is attacking.
If the attack happens at Age 3 you can just add a Springald to your army and that will totally destroy most siege units, especially slow moving rams.
Great that you mentioned this point.
It confuses me a lot why ram can take 16 soldiers. Why 16? This number is just like 17 or 11, something very odd.
I haven’t played but when I first saw Rams having a garrison ability thought it would be pretty OP. but defenses are so good with walls and it is a historical strategy so I look forward to seeing it used. But this is where I think the game should have gone with all siege units needing units to garrison them (MAA or spearmen)to fire. It does not make sense to have a ram full of units and then all the units to eject and the ram still have a life of its own. Then it could be the more units in the ram would make it faster and hit harder… as for mangonels, more crew would have it also move/ pack, and fire faster.
How many can garrison in a siege tower? ( I did not see any of it used in the BETA)
There are a lot of things IRL multiple of 8, so 16 is not a number like 11 or 17 at all (for if that matter)
