Ram should do damage to boat

Hello,

Everyone as already try to destroy a boat with a ram because it’s seem logical to be able to do it. Ram can destroy cannon, onager… and remove 1HP to a boat.

Ram is easily destroy by fire ship, demolition ship and cannon galleon
and ram is powerful on his own way against galleon
but a ram can do nothing against them

Logically, rams should not destroy cannons or onagers. Yeah, they destroy. One of my brain cells dies every time i see that happen.

It makes absurd amount of sense that they are destroyed by fire ships. Because fire. About galleons, i don’t see how a wood box can try to do something vs galleon.
First because rams don’t float on water.
Second, because boats don’t walk on dryland.
Third, because it would really be op in amphibious maps, specially for mongols, having a siege ram filled with infantry and the drill tech. Imagine a instakill unit vs boats that can catch up real fast. Broken.

You have an issue with AOE2 not with the game logical.
It’s logical that fire ship can burn a wood box
It’s logical that a cannon go throw a wood box
It’s logical that a demolition ship can explode a wood box.
Galleon are only better galley, arrow do nothing against wood box

A ram boat was the best way during middle age to sink a ship

Logic apart, we still have the balance issue… While i understand this would be ok on your standard water map, i fear for amphibious games - in maps like golden swamp.
Apart from that, this discussion is not even necessary, as a ram very rarely would hit a boat.

Do you have ideas on how to buff rams to deal with boats, then.

Ram are very slow, you can’t hunt a boat.
If a ram can destroy a boat in three hits:
two fire ship without macro can destroy the ram.
A demolition ship against ram worth it if he can hit two ram
Galleon always avoid ram as actually

Ram have a big issue, they need to be macro to attack unit. They won’t decide by themself to destroy an onager. Against boat it will be the same.
It won’t be overpower and not use much.

Monk are totally overkill. To balance them, they are dump… They can only heal by themself.

It is not supposed to. It already eats up so much damage from ships that they are an effective meatshield for other units if you need to cross shallows or play an amphibious map.

Actually, rams do target automatically against other siege units in DE, so onagers are included. Their problem is they start at defensive stance (S key), you should turn them onto aggressive stance (A key).

https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Armor_class:_Ram Actually Rams take some bonus damage from galleys. But I guess if you absolutely want to kill ships with land units us spearmen who do get an anti-ship bonus. Or even better: onagers.

Imo this is just sensible and for similar reasons I’d like bombard towers to do a +5 to rams, since they are even less useful than a normal tower against them. They would still be useless, but not THAT useless. And the same for unpacked trebs, right now if for some reason it happened so, they can sit in ranfe of BBT and eat up 150 cannonballs. :S 30 would be plenty enough.

I totally agree.
Age of empire is not a kind of chess game.
Fire ship destroy galley
Galley destroy demolition ship
demolition ship destroy galley

But galley have a chance to win against fire ship.
Demolition ships can beat galleys…

I haven’t notice that unpacked treb can’t be destroy by bombard towers but it sound unfair. Treb have a longer range than bombard tower…

You can use a treb to cheese and draw fire from bombard towers by planting it in their range and send other units to kill it quicker. Obviously against a player this stops working the moment the player notices this. Still somewhat stupid though, imo. x] With +5 damage they wouldn’t be immediately killed but such cheese moves would lose some of their worth.

I think about something new and I don’t know if it’s a good idea.
It’s pack and unpack ram. Like treb, ram can umpack.
When we build them they are unpack,
Unpack:

  • fast
  • 0 armor
  • can’t carry any unit
  • can attack building
  • for the design, they don’t have the roof

We can pack them only once, it take the same time to pack a ram than a treb. During pack, they have no armor

Pack (actual ram)

  • slow
  • heavy armor…

Have unpack ram, it will be perfect to finish someone, ram are efficient only against defense building. They are too slow to be effecient against other building.
Against AI, it will be great to destroy all their building
During Team game, it’s could be great to have a unit to finish all building of a dead ennemy or base
During late 1vs1, building cost only wood and they are very hard to destroy, have this kind of ram will help to go throught ennemy defenses.
