When playing standard game with Location = Custom Map Pool and within the map pool only having “Blind Random” selected. It is 100% coastal and not random at all.
Reproduction Steps:
Start a Standard Game
For location select Custom Map pool with “Blind Random” as the only map selected.
Can confirm this bug, I have a specific setup of random maps selected from the custom map pool, but it always just selects Coastal anyway unless I remove the setup and re-make it every time… Very annoying.
After making a custom map pool of at least one map in single player, closing and reopening the game and then starting a single player game without changing the settings will always result in a Coastal map. Whether you first play any number of games with the custom map pool (in which case it works as intended) or close the game before starting any games doesn’t seem to matter. If the map pool settings from the previous session are used without altering them, Coastal always becomes the only map possible even if it is not included in the custom map pool.
Reproduction Steps:
Select standard game
Select at least one map to your custom random map pool
Click apply
Exit the game
Open the game via Steam
Select standard game and start a game without changing map selection
Whenever I launch a game for the first time since booting aoe2 up, whether in standard game or multiplayer lobby, the map will be coastal. It used to be in my map pool, but it isn’t anymore. I can fix it by opening the “custom map pool” tab, I don’t need to touch anything. Still, it’s very annoying. Every time I wanna play a quick game, if I forget that, I will be sent on my least favorite map.
It does not happen when I had only selected one map.
There is a bug that if you choose the maps, random land map or full random map, but not mega random, when the game starts, the map finally is always coastal, which is a annoying fact that after several multiplayer games I find out because it is not friendly to have seas for new players.
Thanks for the report, everyone! We’ll get this written up and passed along to the team!
This is correct. For the time, you can work around the issue by ensuring that you take the time to reset the random map pool each time you create a new game.
Thanks for your patience! We just released an update that may resolve this. Check it out and let us know if there are still any issues. The full list of updates can be found here:
Hi again. It seems it’s fixed but I think the bug now is only on the loading screen (the one with the game resume, civs, options and stuff). It always says coastal whenever you select blind random or random which gives the impression the map will always be coastal but the map indeed is selected randomly.
