Shift queue attacking with ranged units just makes them freeze

If you have a group of skirmishers and shift queue them on several enemy archers so they dont start attacking rams or something while you look away for 5 seconds, they stop attacking at all and just try to stare the enemy to death. Sometimes the shift queue waypoint flags start flickering, so something nasty is going on with the pathfinding probably. If they are not in range of the first enemy, they start walking towards them, but then stop before actually getting in attack range.
