for AI purpose, not for balancing. AI problem have been researching for years, it’s not the same as “balance” for the game.
The problems are different, no one will invest time an resources for some balancing tool. (to realise after, that human can be tired and can not keep up with apm etc).
Have to reply to this rather old thread because I noticed people suggesting the Starcraft 2 matchmaking should be implemented, without mentioning one big flaw of its matchmaking: you can’t select multiple game modes as 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 at the same time. You can only select one at a time. This annoys me a lot when trying to play whatever mode. Especially now when there’s not that many players left active.
Also, for cutsom games it is quite obsolete, you have to select the map first and host a game on that map, rather than just hosting a game and having all settings there to change on the go including maps. AoE is just superior here.
Yes I get it, but I only talk about seeing the map before you pick your civ
+1 ALT+F4 loss
However, would like to see it come after some standard waiting period and opportunity to reconnect because some people may actually crash during this time. Perhaps then it is best to also give the opponent who stayed a win.
A solution would be give people the chance to reconnect even after restarting the pc, upon opening age4 again.
Make it a big button on the screen RECONNECT (like in league of legends) and not let the player do anything else than click that button until the match is done or all allies have resigned.
So everyone would have the chance of reconnect even after powerless in the house or just lost internet connection for a small moment or something like that.
If you happen to magically lose connection or alt F4 or anything similar frequently, you should get temporarily banned from joining or hosting matches or using the queue.
The more it happens, the longer the bans become.
Simple, very simple.
Anyways, a reconnecting feature is a MUST for a year 2021 triple A game of 60$.
If they add map banning, I would have no problem in whatever alt+F4 punishment. Without map banning, however, I would find it excruciating to be forced to play on a water map.
“No modern RTS have random map generation”
Wow, that’s terrible. I’m glad I play AOE.
“I never said u cant. But probably u want to play from civ’s strength… and it’s archers.”
You have to react to conditions. What about counter units? Would you keep building archers if your enemy kept killing them with cavalry?
“Civs are assymetric. I can know build order for Franks, and English Archers, but never learn the build order for English kts.”
Guess what, you might have to build things in a different order once in a while to play a better game.
“We did not have build, we did not have experience of “strong” and “weak”.
But we have words from devs, that some civs played like “turtle”.
How it can be “balanced” if mongols are “fast” civs against “turtle” civ.”
It has been like this before. I remember with AOE 1, when you saw your opponent was Assyrian you would have to expect an early chariot archer rush as soon as they got to Bronze Age. You may have to tell yourself it is a part of the game. Once you accept that, you can move forward.
I feel like these are such a big concern to you if you are focused only on highly competitive 1 vs 1 games. For 2 vs 2 and more, this kind of thing adds variety to games and is a positive. I personally don’t enjoy 1 vs 1 nearly as much as games with more people. I probably won’t play 1 vs 1. That is my 2 cents.
People that cancel a game because they got an unexpected map or an unexpected position on the map are babies. Quitting without trying is lame. Please everyone - don’t be a baby.
All of this talk just makes me think it’s not fun to play games at an expert level.
