Reconnect option when disconnecting/Crashing

Been playing this game since 2021 and I’m surprised that there is still no reconnection option when crashing or disconnecting from the game. When will they add this feature?

This is the most desirable, but also the most difficult feature to be implemented

We anxiously waited for this feature in AoE4 and it never happened (not as far as I’m aware). I’m not getting my hopes up here either.

I still hope they implement this feature. I was playing a 3v3 ranked match last saturday, the match was already 40 minutes long, when my friend’s game crashed and he couldn’t reconnect.

My friend also plays LoL and he said there’s an option to reconnect there. In LoL, when you reconnect the game advances at 8x or 10x speed until it reaches the moment where the other players are. This functionality would be much better than having nothing at all.

The experience we feel when someone crashes, whether on the opposing team or ours, is very bad, because it’s a feeling of wasted time. That’s why I still hope the devs invest in this feature, because it’s a total game changer.

That happened to my friend and I last night. I had the game crash at the match loading screen and it gave me a loss. He ended up quitting the game as it was 2 on 1 and he would not have won the game. I wish I could reload in even if it puts me behind. This is also an option in Counter Strike. Please make this available.

What they should definitely add is the ability to save and remake custom games (and autosave if someone drops). Also, pausing in those games.

Reconnecting from a total crash in a matchmaking game is almost definitely never going to happen.

The amount of effort to implement it is not worth the minor benefit. Random opponents don’t want to sit around waiting to see if maybe you will reconnect or not.

I agree with you, except for that last paragraph. The benefit of reconnecting is not minimal, in fact it is a feature requested by the vast majority of players. And there is no need for other players to wait for the one who has disconnected. The game continues on its course. The one who has disconnected, rejoins and has to wait for the game to advance at a speed of 8x or 10x until it reaches the moment the others are at.

A full disconnect is almost certainly a loss unless it happens when your team’s victory is already imminent.

So it ends up being a huge waste of time because the other players can’t go start a new game, they have to wait for the dropper.

It’s like when we play multi-player and an opponent drops immediately, but their team refuses to surrender. Then ten minutes later with hardly anything happening in between they finally do. Just wasting our time.

If we’re playing against random people and see that they drop. We don’t want to sit there and hope that maybe they’ll come back at some point before we’re done winning the game. We want the game to end so we can go start a new one with the opponents all present.

I say it’s of minimal benefit because it only helps in this situation:

  • The dropped payer is actually coming back at all.
    AND
  • Them dropping isn’t a guaranteed loss (rare).
    AND
  • The other players actually want to wait and see if they will come back.
    AND
  • Their computer is capable of actually catching back up in some reasonable amount of time.

Okay, you’re putting yourself in the perspective of the team that didn’t have anyone disconnected. But what if you were on the other side? If one of your friends got disconnected? Sometimes it’s possible to come back and win the game, and sometimes it’s not, but it would be better to have the option of coming back than to have no chance at all.

Let’s assume that the speed , for someone who is reconnecting to reach the current moment of the game, is 8x. If they go down at the beginning of the game, they can return almost instantly. If they go down at 8 minutes, it would take 1 minute to be able to take control again, at 40 minutes it would be 5 minutes.

It’s true that the longer the game goes, the greater the challenge for the team to defend the friend who was disconnected until he can take control again, but still, at least in my view, it would be better to have this option than nothing.

Yeah it sucks, but they other players don’t need to be held captive because someone else is having connection issues.

But the other players don’t even know if the person intends to come back at all, or if their computer can catch up in a reasonable time, or if their connection issue is actually resolved and won’t just keep disconnecting while they try to come back.

They shouldn’t have to wait around to find out.

Spiteful players could literally use this to hold games they are losing hostage for a while.

But it’s not an option for the other players. It’s being imposed on them. They’re stuck and unable to go play a new game without surrendering one they’re most likely winning.

I understand your point of view, but just so we can align that we are talking about the same thing, I would like to ask you if you understand that the other players do not need to wait for anything and that they will continue playing their game normally.

Yes they keep playing with a player absent. What I mean by wait is they are unable to leave and start a new game.

They have to keep playing hoping that mayyybe the player will come back.

Okay, i understood ! We have the same point of view on many other topics, but on this specific one we have different opinions and that’s okay.
