Recorded Game

I think its very important to add recorded game fuction, its standard to any rts game . It helps a lot players to improve skills, you can save your epic games for eternity, it helps to detect and produce evidence against cheaters and users with bad manners etc.

Please guys dont miss this feature in the final game!

I agree, recorded games are great. Definitely hope the DE has this.

I don’t think a “recorded game” feature would be necessary. But a replay function is essential for every multiplayer game. A replay function where we can toggle on/off Fog of War, view other perspectives of each player in the game, real time statistics (Vill high, resource count, army count etc.).

This is a basic feature now on a RTS game so yes we need it

would love that too

You just described exactly what a recorded game function is.

Looking back at the original post, yes that was probably what he meant. Recorded and replays mean two different things to me in terms of gameplay features.

I thought when he mentioned “recorded” game that he was referring to something like a video recording feature, like you would use to record/stream gameplay (e. g. Fraps, OBS).

Yes, replay function is mandatory. Every age game but aoe 1 has this fuction.

“Has”? Nope.

Oh, don’t start crying about manners…

I thought replay functions in RTS and even dota-style games where state of the art and a needed feature in 2017 (even before) to make a game truly Multiplayer competetive. I thought it was a given that the DE would get one. I am shocked to find out they have not thought about this!

about replay =? recorded game: I have not heard this be called “recorded game” before and am wondering where this comes from but if it is what you described I know this as replay function. Recorded game sounds to me like a third party tool or some sort of replay like they do in FIFA after a goal / Overwatch at the gameend for best play. anyway: I like / need such a function to see idle worker time, build orders etc, no matter what its called ;] (prefer the name “replay function” though, cause why change it if all (?) other games call it that)

I think a replay is different from a recorded game. A replay could for instance mean that the game records and stores every single move each player makes (I think this is how it works in AoE 2, correct me if I am wrong, though). This allows one to effectively replay the game and as an advantage it only needs a few KB’s to replay the entire game instead of GB’s to store gameplay footage. Recording video footage is different as it just records the screen.

Just bumping this - can the developers please give us an update? Imo, recorded games are essential for any competitive multiplayer environment.

But by the very act of recording every event in the game, it is a recorded game  They are interchangeable in a way. You use the replay function to replay a recorded game. But people will usually know what you mean if the game has it.

Video or screen recording is what is use to describe that kind of recorded game.

I agree. For LAN games replay and optionally save to a recording and/or stream it live are fine enough. But for online multiplayer games it’s actually a must. Also the being able to stream live games is a must. And let’s not forget some kind of reporting functionality.

Hey, what’s happend with this usefull and interesting feature?

This can be done. The commands are simply saved to a log file and you can play them back later. As they improve multiplayer and ranking systems they will need this feature to make it a reasonable multiplayer experience
