Regarding Age of Empires 5, I Have a Brilliant Idea. Feel Free to Listen In!

Why doesn’t our official website launch a donation drive? If we are truly eager to play Age of Empires V, I believe many of us would be willing to contribute our own funds. While each individual’s contribution might be small, the Age of Empires fanbase is massive and global.

Even though Age of Empires 5 will likely be made without a crowdfunding campaign, our collective effort could accelerate the project and demonstrate immense fan support directly to the developers.

Perhaps you’re worried that crowdfunding would create pressure on the official team. However, us fans privately pushing for the start of Age of Empires V’s development could help unite the community, keep the excitement alive, and show Microsoft and World’s Edge just how passionate and dedicated we are.

How brilliant do you think this idea is?

Microsoft (World’s Edge’s parent company) is a profit-oriented corporation, not a charity. They aren’t legally allowed to accept donations.

To give an anecdote on this: back in 2005, when Paramount decided to cancel Star Trek Enterprise after four seasons, fans started fundraising and actually raised $2 million. However, as Paramount is likewise profit-oriented, they weren’t allowed to take the money.

This idea is inspired by the model of fans supporting their favorite streamers with gifts. There’s no need to deny the universal reality that studios need to generate revenue to sustain their work. They cannot develop games on an empty stomach, just as streamers rely on support to continue creating content. Game designers, of course, play an even more foundational role than streamers.

For me, if many people each contributing a small amount—say, fifty yuan—could lead to the earlier development of Age of Empires V, it would be entirely worth it. Our time and passion are finite and cannot be bought back with money. To experience the next chapter of this beloved series sooner, spending a modest amount is a meaningful trade-off.

I deeply hope not to see Age of Empires V only when I’m old and have lost my passion for gaming!

I would agree if you want to fund an indie company (please, fund mine), not a multimillion dollar company

I hope my passion for gaming never leaves, even when I’m old

One of the most stupid things to do in the world

Ehm… they still wouldn’t be allowed to accept any donated money. This is a legal thing.
